The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has decided to cease the controversy over management courses by allowing management institutes to convert the intake of MBA and MMS courses into PGDM intake or vice-versa. The controversy has come to an end and permits to the convert existing MBA to PGDM.
According to the consent terms agreed among AICTE and the Association of Indian Management Schools, the institutes have the liberty “to oversee each MBA/MMS and standalone PGDM institute as separate entities.”
Convert MBA to PGDM
AICTE on February 14, 2020 issued a new Approved Handbook(APH). The handbook prohibits institutions from engaging in MBA and PGDM guides from the same organization and were asked to make establishments where either they convert the PGDM course into MBA or convert the MBA direction into PGDM or begin a brand new group for carrying out PGDM path.
The new changes made in APH guidelines were quoted as “drastic and disastrous” in the petition filed by the advocate Ashutosh Kullarni on behalf of the affiliation.
In addition to the argument on behalf of the affiliation states that the alternatives given by the aid of AICTE were not possible as 1/2 acre land is needed to set up a new institute in Mumbai below AICTE norms.
Mumbai University (MU) had filed a sworn statement in reply to the petition stating the new rules and how they are not possible, at least till the next academic year. MU also informed the court that they are not sure about the outcomes.
Coming to conclusion
Justice KR Shriram on Tuesday disposed of the affiliation’s petition, which allows the management institutes to carry ahead and convert existing MBA to PGDM.
