Aligarh-based boy bags 100% scholarship at Stanford University

Another village boy from India creates history! Manu Chauhan from Aligarh bagged a place at Stanford University with a 100% scholarship. He appeared for SATs and scored a whopping 1470 out of 1600. Always an achiever, when asked why he wanted to choose Stanford, he answered, "It is among the top universities of the world and the research infrastructure is excellent. Indian Universities do not offer the opportunity of research. I want to bring change and that requires the right access which Stanford provides me.”

After completing his primary schooling at a government school in Akrabad, Aligarh, he got a scholarship to Vidyagyan School, a residential school run by the Shiv Nadar Foundation. He went through a rigorous process that involved an entrance examination involving 2,50,000 students, in which Manu came in the list of the top 250 students who were admitted.

Cracking this examination was his first step to a new beginning. By securing 95.4% in his 10th board examination he instilled faith that one day after completing his schooling he would study abroad at the top US University.

Rough roadblocks

Manu Chauhan has faced rough roadblocks but he has overcome them with flying colours. He comes from a humble background from Aligarh. The only earning member of his family, his father, is a small insurance salesman in UP’s Akrabad village. Manu’s flight to such a reputed university makes it possible for everyone to think that dreams do come true if they work with relentless zeal. His family members faced hurdles to even meet their daily basic needs. However, Manu, through his intellect, always knew that if he keeps studying, success is not far from him.

Manu has his eyes set at the United Nations. He aspires to bring about a definite change and work towards children’s education. To serve his purpose, he has chosen a program in International Relations and Economics at the university.  By securing a position at Stanford, he is pretty sure that his dreams are taking a face.

The journey to a new beginning

Manu hopes to fly to Stanford this September. Talking about his journey, he vividly describes how his school supported him with adequate guidance. His school counselor helped him and Manu also had access to the counselors in Delhi. His college’s board scholarship paid his SAT examination form fees. All his expenses at Stanford University would be met through his scholarship, from accommodation to food and traveling expenses. He is super excited about his upcoming future endeavours.

According to him, everybody has an opportunity to avail, given one keeps his/her eyes and ears open to the new avenues. With dedication and hard work, everything’s possible and Manu is an exemplar of this. As a piece of suggestion for students who aspire to study abroad, he says to go for it, “It is possible. There are many institutions and organizations that are there to help you. Keep your eyes and ears open and work towards it,” he says.
