Getting into a B-School is one thing, and making a meaningful career out of it is another. Here is an example of a student from FORE Management School, who recently wrapped her summer internship at Nestlé. By the end of the article, you will get one thing for sure - if things are done correctly, the tag never matters!

Nestlé is one of the world’s largest food and beverage companies. With more than 2000 brands ranging from global icons to local favorites, it is present in more than 190 countries worldwide. Without any surprise, it is one of the most desired companies by every management aspirant. Likewise, Arushi Jain too had her sights set on landing the opportunity to intern with Nestlé, and her hard work and determination turned her dream into a reality.

Selection process of Nestlé

Since Nestlé was a day zero company, the competition among the students was very high, and preparing for the internship rounds was quite challenging. However, these challenges could not kill her spirits. Her sheer dedication throughout the process helped her to grab the internship offer in the “Sales and Marketing” field with Nestlé India.

The selection process consisted of 3-rounds; the first one being CV shortlisting, followed by a group discussion round, which was concluded with a personal interview. The PI round was to assess candidates’ personalities and evaluate if the candidate is a good fit for the position.

The fool-proof preparation strategy

Arushi believes that there is no universal strategy when it comes to preparing for placement processes. She points out that one should be attentive and confident during the whole process. Although some basic preparations which any student should follow are reading the opportunities’ job description, going through the company’s website, and preparing for the suitable GD topics.

She further adds that a person’s positive attitude, knowledge, and awareness are of paramount importance in acing an interview (any interview, not just an interview with Nestlé).

Experience at Nestlé

From the very beginning, all the interns were treated more like an employee and less like an intern. The program was well structured, the induction week gave an insight into the organization's culture. The program enabled her to understand the company and its different verticals and sessions from all domain experts. Thus, it provided a holistic view of how the company operates.

The interns were allotted individual projects to work on for the 8 weeks of the internship period. Due to the nature and confidentiality of the project, she could not elaborate on the intricate details of the work that she performed in those 8 weeks. However, she did mention she got a chance to work with the different channels, schemes, and make recommendations for Nestlé.

Despite being unable to visit the office, Arushi describes her time at Nestlé as an enriching experience. She was able to put her theoretical learnings to practice, and in the process, she also expanded her knowledge base. All the knowledge that she accumulated in the first year of her MBA was reinforced with the on-ground experience of the internship.

Arushi concluded this by adding that the practical experience on offer in the form of a summer internship is not something anyone should miss out on while pursuing their higher education and is the first step to preparing yourself before entering the world of corporates.

Words of wisdom

The upcoming batch of interns who might have to battle the same demons should always be prepared to learn new things and be optimistic. Arushi recommends future leaders to never back down in the face of adversity. After all, when the going gets tough, the tough get going.
