Asmita 2021: The IIIT Allahabad virtual sports meet draws to a close

Perseverance and tenacity are often the foundational traits of success. When these are added to dedication and teamwork, the results are overwhelming. Keeping up the tradition, this year too Asmita 2021 by IIIT Allahabad was celebrated with enthusiasm by the participants of the college. Asmita witnessed a record-breaking number of participants this year which brought together sports fanatics from across North India. 

This year, due to the global pandemic, the institute was compelled to conduct Asmita 2021 online. The most peculiar aspect of the event was the number of online participations recorded for the event. From chess to CS:GO matches, every event witnessed countless participations.

This was the first day of what was about to be the 3-day extravaganza. We saw some gruelling CS:GO 5v5 matches for a place in the finals. After the furious combat, it was time to lighten the mood with the preliminary rounds of skribble where participants guessed their friend’s doodles to win the round and move forward to the final showdown.

On day 2 of Asmita 2021, the chess tournament began. Chess matches were like battlefields where two minds competed with each other. We saw some extraordinary individual performances in the 1v1 CS:GO semifinal as every player wanted to seal the spot in the finals. Later in the day, there was the skribble semifinal which turned into a fun battle with friends. The Sports Quiz was an illuminating experience as well and COD mobile provided online gaming loyal fans a great deal of entertainment. The last event of the day was CS:GO 5v5 final round 2 which gave us our finalists for the grand finale.

The last day of Asmita 2021 entertained everybody with some great events and kept participants on the edge throughout the day. We witnessed intellectual minds competing amongst themselves during the finals of the chess competition. The auction was a joy ride for us all. Bidders competed against each other, with each bid being higher than the previous one. The finals of skribble gave us an adrenaline rush like no other. The final event of the day was the much anticipated CS:GO finals of both 1v1 and 5v5 format. The matches were close and only the very best won the tournament.

And with this, the exciting days came to an end and everyone returned with their hearts brimming with memories. All participants gave their best but only a few emerged as rising stars. With the event winded up for this year, Asmita hopes to take forward its legacy in the many years to come.
