B-school Placement to get Centralised-Maitri Initiative

The management body of Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIM-A), IIM Bangalore, IIM Lucknow, IIM Indore, MDI Gurgaon, XLRI Jamshedpur and IIFT Delhi has come up with a plan to form a centralised placement service in the form of All India B-school Placements Committee(AIBPC) on the lines of the All IITs Placement Committee (AIPC) that exits in IITs.

This agenda was raised at the annual Maitri Conference held in IIFT Delhi, the first edition of Maitri was held at IIM Ahmedabad in the year 2017. The event was conducted for the first time by student representatives and discussions were held on recruiter experiences and best practices followed in top B-schools of the country. However, the main focus was on creating an All India B-School Placements Committee.

IIFT communique stated that all the participating campuses have decided to-

The decision to create All India B-School Placements Committee has due to the anomalies which had been noticed on the part of recruiters and to safeguard the interests of the students.

According to a member of the placement committee interviewed by Business Standard stated that some recruiters do come for placement, however, is reluctant to hire and even if they hire it is quite less in number. There are recruiters who come up with a different job description at the time of recruitment. So the discussions were on to come up with a joint initiative to plug this anomaly. Discussions also revolved around additional skills required for the new and emerging sectors in the market.

Since every B-school is an autonomous body and they are an institution in itself, there is no single body to regulate or interfere in the matters of these individual institutions so it becomes a prerogative to create an institution which can solely be concerned with the well being of the students. Such an initiative will surely make the culture of the B-schools more vibrant and focussed on perfection.

Currently, only seven campuses above mentioned has decided to be the part of the Maitri and it is unclear whether more B-schools would be part of this initiative or not.
