Burning the midnight oil to adapt to my new life at FMS Delhi -By Shubham Ande

With life taking place on virtual platforms, I attended my online induction program at the Faculty of Management Studies (FMS) on 13th July. FMS provides its students with a comprehensive 12-day induction program to prepare them for the journey ahead. The program took place on Google Meets, with more than 150 students in attendance. Despite being in front of our laptop screens at our homes, the induction program was successful in familiarising us with life at FMS.

Filling the void of virtual rooms

It definitely is not easy to form bonds over online induction programs, and get an idea of how life at FMS will be like with virtual tours. Nevertheless, the 12-day induction program made it possible for us to be introduced to not only our batchmates, but the Dean, the faculty, and fellow society members.

The program started with the Dean addressing the new batch about life at FMS. This was followed by an interactive session with the wonderful faculty we have here at FMS, along with several society members introducing themselves. The induction program was also filled with ice-breaking sessions so we could bond with our batchmates. This helped us in interacting with one another and forming connections across laptop screens.

Going beyond our limits

These 12 days hinted at the challenges we would be facing on our MBA journey ahead. Though the program had its share of fun and frolic, it also gave us a taste of life at FMS with regards to the assignments and tasks we would receive. To help us adapt to the hectic routine that would come our way, we were assigned numerous group tasks and activities, for which we would often have to stay up late.

Pulling off all-nighters like these where you manage to get less than 4 hours of sleep is an essential part of any B-school student’s routine. The assignments we were given explored fields that we had not discovered before, pushing us to go beyond our limits. Surprisingly though, we were able to complete the tasks on time, and excel at them. All our hard work and long nights paid off, proving that though life at FMS can be tough, it is all worth it in the end.

Such all-nighter tasks were not only successful in exceeding the expectations we had about ourselves but were also helpful in forming everlasting bonds with our fellow batchmates. These team-building exercise and activities are quite essential, especially in a B-school like FMS where building networks is crucial.
