Education Wins Over Societal Pressure As Driver's Daughter Becomes ISRO Scientist

"Get an education at all costs and make every effort to achieve your goal." This is a message that the ‘Daughter of Vidisha', Sana Ali, has for all the women who are going against society to achieve their career dreams. Sana is all set to become a scientist at Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). But getting to serve at one of the world’s most prestigious space agencies wasn’t an easy ride for her. Let’s take you through Sana’s exceptional journey.

Financial constraints didn’t limit Sana’s dreams

Sana belongs to a lower-middle-class family in Vidisha, a small city in Madhya Pradesh. Her father works as a bus driver while her mother is a homemaker. Hence, education, especially engineering, was a luxury of Sana’s family. However, seeing their daughter’s conviction, Sana’s parents left no stone unturned to make her dream come true.

Her father worked extra hard and took loans to manage the finances and her mother pitched in by mortgaging her gold jewellery to fund their daughter’s education. However, the economic constraint was not the only challenge that the Ali family faced.

Sana’s relatives were strongly opposed to her education and pressurized her parents to get her married off. Not succumbing to societal pressures and with full faith in their daughter’s capabilities, Sana’s parents let her continue her education and she completed her B.Tech and M.Tech from Samrat Ashok Technical Institute, Vidisha.

I worked hard to get my daughter educated. We continued her education despite all economical constraints. I told my daughter that she had to study at all costs and achieve her goals. My daughter also gave her all efforts in her studies and reached this stage. We are very happy. I make supplications that my daughter may progress more and more,” says Sana’s father.

Commending her hard work and calling her the ‘Daughter of Vidisha’, Madhya Pradesh’s CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan said that Sana symbolizes the real potential of girls who are capable of achieving success despite difficult circumstances. Union Minister, Jyotiraditya Scindia, also applauded Sana for her feat.

On to the brighter side of life

In 2022, Sana Ali got married to an engineer from Gwalior. Her husband and his family are supportive of Sana’s endeavors. On the work front, Sana Ali has been assigned to the position of a technical assistant at Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC) which is a rocket launch center operated by ISRO and located in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh. Sana’s story of perseverance and her family’s conviction toward education will certainly motivate more people to follow this trail.
