CAT 2019 was organised and conducted by IIM Kozhikode. A huge task in itself got a lot trickier due to the ongoing nationwide lockdown. Although COVID 19 had been in the news since late last year, its entry into the country and the subsequent jamming of the wheels happened only in late March. This not only threw off the academic calendar but also the admission process which was at its peak at the time. Despite all the hurdles, IIM Kozhikode has successfully managed to wrap up the process and will be releasing the IIM shortlist of CAT 2019 on 8th May 2020.
CAT 2019 observed the highest number of registered students in the decade. Out of 244,190 registered students, 209,926 candidates successfully appeared for CAT 2019, which was conducted at 376 test centres spread across 156 cities in India on November 24, 2019. However, after the declaration of the results on 4th January 2020, the completion of the selection process was delayed due to the outbreak of the Coronavirus pandemic.
Thanks to technology, even due to the current unparalleled scenario IIM Kozhikode and other IIMs are able to complete the process and will be announcing the final IIM shortlist based on CAT 2019 results from May 8 onwards. The IIM also claims an increase in the female-male ratio at 35.73 per cent in 2019 as compared to the 35.02 per cent in CAT 2018 based on the number of appeared candidates.
