Launching Ambitions Amid Minimum Means, Govt. School Girls Design Chip For ISRO Satellite!
Knowledge can foster even in the dark, surpass every prejudice, and illuminate the world. In one such example, girls of a Government Senior Secondary School in Amritsar have shown that no goal is too big for a determined mind.
In a rare feat, the Punjab school girls have designed an electronic chip that has been installed in an ISRO satellite! The satellite is all set to launch on 10th February 2023. Most of these girls come from humble households and higher education, especially in science, is beyond their means. But setbacks haven't deterred these girls to aim for the stars. Their innovation has garnered a lot of appreciation and has inspired girls living in small towns to set their goals high.
Punjab CM congratulated the brilliant girls and wished them well for their future. He said that this is a proud moment for the state and encouraged the girls to keep working towards their dreams. The girls would be soon visiting Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC) SHAR, Sriharikota for which they have been given INR 3 lakh cheque for bearing all the expenses.

Women Count in STEM Going Uphill
STEM or Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics is commonly viewed as masculine and women have traditionally shied away from this field. Apart from gender stereotypes, there are fewer role models in this domain to stir the interest of other females for taking up STEM as the field of study.
However, shattering past perceptions, the number of women in India in STEM has tremendously increased in the last couple of years. It has gone up from 10,02,707 in 2017-18 to 10,56,095 in 2019-20 as per a study conducted by AISHE.
Girls’ interest in science and technology at the school level is an encouraging trend to witness. Apart from allowing a holistic development of students, this would pave the way for narrowing down the gender pay gap, enhancing women’s economic security, and promoting diversity in the field of innovation in the long run.
