With a range of societal issues nagging our society today, IIT Kanpur is proudly organizing the third edition of its Policy Conclave, a first of its kind platform to engage students with policy-making and scrutinize these potential policies as solutions to these issues. The event hosted by the Student’s Opinion Society of IIT Kanpur will be conducted from 9th to 11th April 2021 on the theme “To bridge the gap between Public Policy and Public Opinion”.
Students’ Opinion Society is a student club at IIT Kanpur, which is also the only student-run public-policy club among the 23 IITs nationwide. It aims to engage students with the challenges of policymaking and encourage them to pursue careers in the field of public policy and governance.
Policy Conclave is their annual flagship event which includes enlightening talks by eminent personalities, policy-based competitions, and engaging discussions aimed at bringing a positive social impact on the students. In the past, the conclave has hosted personalities from the field of economics, politics, journalism, and many more.
What is Policy Conclave offering this year?
Workshops
There will be workshops from top public policy think tanks of the nation to induce and enhance problem-solving skills and structured thinking in the field of public policy. The Students’ Opinion Society has collaborated with PRS Legislative Research, Chennai Centre for China Studies, and Vivekananda International Foundation to hold workshops for the students to help them critically think about the issue from multiple perspectives and communicate the ideas effectively.
Competitions
As a part of the Policy Conclave every year, multiple nationwide policy-making competitions are organized and hosted on Dare2Compete. This year, the organizing team has come up with four competitions:
- Rajneeti - A Political Case Study Competition
- Lok Niti - A Public Policy Hackathon
- Policy Cipher - A Treasure Hunt Competition
- Unscripted - A Documentary Case Study Competition
Informative sessions
The conclave includes sessions from senior bureaucrats and corporates from the field of public policy and governance for sessions on economics, geopolitics, and many more related topics, which is open to the campus community. Further, ForumIAS has also collaborated with the event as its Career Partner. They will be taking mentorship sessions on creating roadmaps for UPSC preparations, which would also include discussions with their previous students.
