When some of us are losing hope that we won’t get a job in this Covid-19 pandemic, the story of Avnish Chhikara is the perfect example of working hard consistently with dedication and that it does pay off in the end. 22-year old Avnish Chhikara is a son of a farmer from Sonipat in Haryana. His father is a farmer-cum-driver in Kraweri village. He just has a B.Tech degree from Deenbandhu Chhotu Ram University of Science and Technology (DCRUST) in Murthal, Sonipat and has recently won himself an annual package of INR 67 LPA at Amazon!
The inspiring journey of Avnish to Amazon
Avnish does not belong to a rich family and had to manage his studies, himself. He used to home tutor other students so that he could pay for his graduate studies. He used to study for 10 hours a day after he returned from his engineering classes. This was the same time in the pandemic when he applied for an internship at Amazon for a stipend of INR 2.4 Lakh per month.
There were times when he had no money to pay his university fees, but somehow he continued to manage, partially by giving home tuitions. He also said that there were many other challenges that he had to face because of the limited resources that his family had.
Later, impressed by the work Avnish did during the internship, the American tech giant, Amazon offered him a package of INR 67 LPA. He anticipates that the package is expected to go up to INR 1 crore. However, according to an estimate, the average salary for engineering freshers in Amazon ranges between INR 3.2- 4.6 LPA. Therefore, it is a great feat for the Haryana-based guy.
Avnish has made his parents proud by bagging a life-changing opportunity at a venue as big as Amazon. The DCRUST University Vice-Chancellor Prof Anayath praised Avnish a lot. He said that it makes him proud that a student from such a modest background has achieved the feat by the virtue of his own hard work. He hopes that other students also take inspiration from Avnish's story and, thus, strive for greater things.
All in all, there is definitely no substitute for consistent efforts, and it does pay off in the end. However, it is not an end but just a beginning for the talented 22-year old!
