How an internship at DoMS-NIT Trichy, taught me the value of hard work -By Prachi Bhagat

Popularly known as DoMS-NIT, Trichy, the Department of Management Studies has existed for more than 3 decades now. Amongst the NITs, DoMS is the only institution which was founded by the HRD Ministry. With an emphasis on research, this institute has connections in the industry and focuses on contributing to the growth and development of the country. Interested in the field of research ever since I started my bachelor’s, getting an internship opportunity at the DoMS-NIT Trichy, thrilled me.

What did you learn from your mentor during your internship at DoMS-NIT?

The institute provides a stimulating environment for the development of both, faculty and students. I stepped into the shoes of a research analyst during my internship at DoMS-NIT. During my 2 months of internship, Dr. B Senthil Arasu was my mentor. He catered to my queries related to algorithmic trading and data analysis. His valuable guidance and constructive feedback at each level helped me throughout my internship.

Describe an interesting incident that happened during your internship at DoMS-NIT

The dedication and devotion I had towards my work did not allow for a lot many interesting incidents. But there is one that I recall and would like mentioning here. During my stay there, there was a day when I wanted to meet my mentor to clear a few doubts. Upon reaching the department, I found his cabin locked. As I wanted to know about his arrival at the earliest, I waited for him outside the department. A while later I saw him coming out of the department building itself, conversing with a few people around him. My stupidity stunned me for a moment after which we both burst out laughing.

What were your major takeaways from your internship?

My internship at DoMS-NIT, Trichy, taught me a lot apart from increasing the domain of my knowledge.

I learnt to be patient and smart

Another lesson I learnt is that hard work paves the way to success

I became cautious of my responsibilities and understood my work-life priorities

Last but definitely not the least, my internship gave me work experience and the ability to comprehend the area of work I was really interested in.
