Reliance Industries is one of the most successful conglomerates in the world, leading in Petroleum, Polymers, Retail and Telecom sectors in India. Understanding how the largest private sector company in India works would be the best exposure available. This is in addition to the advantage of working in an organization that has been ranked in the top 10 best organizations to work for in 2019 by Linkedin. This internship at Reliance Industries Ltd gave me a chance to apply classroom knowledge of Finance, Accounting and Statistics on real projects and understand these fields better.

What is the selection process for an internship at Reliance Industries Ltd?

The selection process for an internship at Reliance Industries Ltd has the following stages:

  1. Online Aptitude and Psychometric test
  2. Group Discussion
  3. Personal Interviews

The selection process started with a lengthy online aptitude and psychometric test, followed by case-based Group Discussion. Finally, we had two excruciating rounds of Personal Interviews. However, confidence and a good CV can help tip the scales in your favour.

What did I learn during my internship?

My role during the internship at Reliance Industries Ltd was for Treasury Operations. I had to predict the Daily Fund Inflow. Coming from an engineering background with technical work experience, I had very limited exposure to corporate finance and treasury operations. However, a two-month internship at the largest telecom company in India's (Jio) treasury department changed all of that. It gave me an exposure to treasury operations including means of funding, fund inflow patterns. It required exposure to sophisticated software like Minitab, Tableau, SAP and understanding their importance.

My project location was Reliance Corporate Park which was 30 minutes from my residence. Hence, I did not have to move to a different city which was a blessing for me. Reliance had made all arrangements for interns coming from other cities at their lavish Beverly Park Complex. This allowed all my fellow interns from other cities to have an amazing stay in Mumbai.

What was the work culture during my internship?

My first team outing was at Nagothane facility of Reliance Industries. We were given a tour of the manufacturing facility. What followed was interactions with leaders of the Global Corporate Security arm of Reliance. We were given an inspiring and enlightening presentation by Captain Raghu Raman on application/ relevance of military tactics and learnings in the corporate world. Various group activities followed which taught us the importance of team-work. It also allowed me to make good friends across India.

I would love the opportunity to work at Reliance Industries Ltd as it has given me a huge exposure during my tenure. So, I can only imagine how much I would learn while working at Reliance full time. I stand by their core values of Customer Value, Ownership Mindset, Respect, Integrity, One Team and Excellence. I feel that working in Reliance will be the best opportunity for me to move forward.

In a nutshell, my internship at Reliance Industries Limited was a well-rounded experience. It provided me with great exposure to the corporate world.

What did I learn from my mentor during my internship at Reliance Industries Ltd?

My mentor engaged me in periodic review sessions and project guides to assess my progress in the projects assigned to me. He also ensured that I was working in the right direction. With a little help from my mentor, I could arrive at answers myself. This bolstered my confidence and allowed me to work efficiently without much pressure. My key takeaway from the feedback and review sessions was that periodic nudging in the right direction allowed me to complete my project with desired results and understanding in those fields. This method can be used for all learning and project activities.

Some interesting incidents that happened during my internship at Reliance Industries Ltd

My internship at Reliance was very eventful. During the internship, all the interns got a chance to witness the IPL match between Mumbai Indians and SunRisers Hyderabad. This was the first time I saw a cricket match in a stadium. The excitement in the stadium, cheering and the celebration of Mumbai Indians’ win were all moments I will never forget.

When Mumbai Indians won the IPL series, all interns got an opportunity to take part in the victory lap celebrations. These took place from Mahalakshmi Race Course to Oberoi Hotel on Marine Drive. During this event, I got an opportunity to see all the famous cricket stars of Mumbai Indians making this event truly mesmerizing and unforgettable!
