The coronavirus outbreak has affected the lives of more than 20 lakh people and counting, who came face to face with the novel virus and 1.27 lacs death worldwide have been recorded so far. Lockdown has also impacted the Indian economy in the worst way but the way Indian corporates are fighting the coronavirus is commendable!
According to KPMG, the lockdown in India has impacted the consumption which is the biggest component of the GDP. Also, due to the reduction in an urban transaction can lead to a steep fall in the consumption of non-essential items. Due to these factors, there will be a delay in further investments which will create pressure on the growth of the economy.
Corporates are helping the government and citizens to fight against the pandemic in different ways. Some donated crores of rupees, sanitizers, supplying medical equipment, opening hospitals.
Here is the list of some of the Corporates who innovatively fought against the situation:
India's largest decorative paint maker Asian paints has raised staff salaries to boost morale amid the coronavirus pandemic. Due to this measure, the share price of Asian Paints gained over 2% to Rs 1554 on May 15. It has extended its product line and started making hand sanitizers and surface sanitizers to support the government to fight against COVID-19.
Other brands which have also started making hand sanitizers after COVID-19 outbreak are Dabur, Emami, Patanjali, Nivea India, and Raymond Consumer Care.
The wellness startup Cipla Heath Limited has collaborated with essential item providers such as Dunzo, Swiggy, and Zomato to supply OTC wellness products such as Cofsils, Nicotex, Maxirich, Ciphands hand sanitizers, CHG hand rubs, etc.
Zomato launched Zomato Market for grocery delivery. As the demand for online grocery service boosts due to lockdown.
Britannia has partnered with Dunzo for the delivery of home essentials. As Dunzo has the concept of no contact delivery this will ensure products are delivered safely.
Leading e-commerce firm Flipkart has partnered with the ride-hailing app company Uber to provide services of essential items to the people.
Ride-hailing app Ola has kept masks and hand sanitizers at its walk-in centres. It has also shared "detailed health advisory" with its driver-partners.
Amazon is among one of the corporates which are fighting the Coronavirus by introducing Amazon food in India. It partnered with local restaurants and a cloud kitchen that passed its "high hygiene certification bar". Customers can order food now via Amazon food.
FMCG companies like HUL, ITC, Godrej slashed the price of hand sanitizers and soaps in the wake of coronavirus. Godrej reduces the price of Godrej pocket sanitizer from INR 75 to INR 25. HUL has reduced the price by 15%. It has also increased the production of Lifebuoy hand sanitizers and liquid hand wash. ITC reduced the price of 55ml of Savlon from Rs 77 to Rs 22.
The much-loved chocolate Cadbury Dairy Milk replaced the logo with the word "Thank You" on limited edition Dairy Milk bars. It is launched in eight different languages - English, Hindi/Marathi, Gujarati, Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam. It is to deliver the support and gratitude to everyone who is fighting tirelessly and generously against the coronavirus pandemic. It has also donated 71 tonnes of biscuits and chocolates in 12 cities across the country. It has donated 225 litres of sanitizers and 1 lakh masks to the frontline heroes for their safety.
Reliance Jio, Retail, Life Sciences came together to help the government. It has ramped up the production capacity of face masks to 1,00,000 per day. It has provided fuel to emergency vehicles and free meals across the cities. It has also set up India’s first dedicated COVID 19 hospital in Mumbai.
Indian corporates have a heart of gold which has made sure that their gold is used to spread relief during these dark times.
