Interning with one of the Big Four Firms is an opportunity that no sane person will give up. When I got this opportunity, I grabbed it with both hands. Getting selected for an internship at Deloitte will be one of the most precious highlights of my B-School journey!

The selection process for an Internship at Deloitte Consulting had 3 stages:

  1. CV Shortlist,

  2. Case Study discussion and

  3. Personal interview

Even before I started my MBA, everyone had been harping about the importance of having a sound CV. I knew that its importance but appearing for the selection process for an internship at Deloitte made me realize exactly how crucial it actually is. Case Study and PIs is something an average B-Schooler can overcome in their sleep. There are the occasional nerves that do kick in. But it was nothing to write home about.

My internship at Deloitte was in the role of a Functional Consultant, wherein I was to understand the client’s business and show how Oracle ERP would help him benefit in his business. As I have prior experience in the IT sector, it was rather easy for me to connect with the role.

Even with prior exposure to similar settings, I got to learn new skills. Namely, application of the knowledge one gains in a classroom, especially accounting and operations concepts. My internship at Deloitte helped me in improving my problem-solving skills and taught me how to approach any given situation at work.

To pursue my Internship at Deloitte I moved to Bengaluru. I had heard so much about the city. People either love it or hate it. Initially, it was a bit difficult adjusting to the climate, food, language, and the infamous Bangaluru traffic. Eventually, I started loving the city and ended up missing the city more than anything. Bengaluru as a city will always be close to my heart.

During the course of my internship at Deloitte, we all went out for lunch. Although I was supposed to focus on socializing, I paid special attention to the contents of the lunch buffet. Let me tell you, I chose well! Also, we had something known as Fun Friday at Deloitte where we had to present a dance performance. Practise sessions for those were supremely fun. A night out during the weekend to explore the city; traveling at 3 AM in the morning to see the sunrise at Nandi Hills. All these are things that anyone who has been to Bangaluru talks about. I never understood the fascination until now. Now I do!

If I could, I would love to work with Deloitte. The work culture is excellent and conducive to growth. However, I would prefer to not work in the same service line as my internship.

My internship at Deloitte was eventful and a learning experience like no other. One major learning that I will always keep in  mind is “Always look at a problem from a broader aspect and every solution you provide must have monetary benefit for the client, else it is of no use.”
