Johnson & Johnson is an amazing organization and believes in ethical business which is the reason for their consistent performance. Its main aim is to change the trajectory of the health of humanity. The organization’s top priority is the safety of people which matched the value I was looking for. Johnson & Johnson have been known for their innovative and game-changing events. An internship at Johnson & Johnson seemed like a natural progression. 

What is the selection process for an Internship at Johnson & Johnson?

The selection process for an Internship at Johnson & Johnson had the following components:

1. Shortlisting on the basis of CV
2. Group Discussion
3. Personal Interview

The first round was shortlisting on the basis of CV. The second round was a gamified Group Discussion where logical and analytical skills were tested in addition to leadership skills. The ones who survived these two rounds had to sit for a Personal Interview.

What did you learn from your internship?

My role during the Internship at Johnson & Johnson was for a Marketing role that involved working on different kinds of strategies. I significantly improved my analytical skills and learned how to work effectively and efficiently on both tableau and excel.

A good thing about this internship at Johnson & Johnson was that I did not have to move. So all that traveling tantrum was avoided. Not that I would have minded moving to a new city! During one of the informal chat sessions, the MD of the Pharma Business spoke to us about his career.

He talked about how he had started his career as a Medical representative and had grown into the MD of Janssen. An ingrown leader, his life story motivated me to pursue my dreams. This spoke volumes about the company, the mentorship it gives and the growth opportunities that are available. The work environment was conducive and inspiring. Here, people believed in collaboration rather than competition. I would love to join Johnson & Johnson if given the chance. This experience at Johnson & Johnson was fascinating, eventful and full of learning!

What are the key takeaways from your internship?

Some of the key takeaways from my internship at Johnson & Johnson were:

1. Never think that your idea or opinion about the business is insignificant.
2. Voice your ideas. Never be afraid to speak out.
3. Always think about how your ideas can be made better and make it applicable to the entire enterprise, not just the team you are working for.

My mentor has always been a pillar of strength for me. He constantly supported me and encouraged me to do better each day. I remember the day when I was overwhelmed with the data I was handling and disturbed by some leakages, my mentor saw me and said, "Business is Ruthless". What he said didn't surprise me. But despite the truth in what he said, I had the privilege to be guided by someone who had retained empathy and compassion after being in the system for so many years. 

In times when I got stuck, he would smile and say, “It is okay. This is how you will learn”. He displayed the kind of leader that you only read in textbooks. He helped in discovering my passion and taught me a lot about leadership. If I wanted to sum up my Internship at Johnson & Johnson with one word; it was highly ‘captivating’!
