How my internship at Miebach Consulting upped my Supply chain & Operations skills -By Shubham Shah from NITIE Mumbai
Shubham, who hails from the financial capital of Gujarat - Ahmedabad, graduated from NIT Surat and opted to work for Nation's one of the most significant engineering conglomerate - L&T before joining NITIE. He is a Supply chain and Operations enthusiast who excels at strategy and operations case studies. He has been a two-time National Winner, one time National Finalist, and two times Campus Finalist in Strategy and Ops case competition. His love for Supply Chain and Operations is further reflected in his summer internship. So as to gain from his experience, here is an anecdote of how he grabbed an internship at Miebach Consulting as a Management Consulting intern.
Working or interning as a consultant allowed me to exercise and enhance various skills - problem-solving, logical reasoning, analytical reasoning, ability to work well within a team, and communication skills. I had two things in my mind.
- I wanted to explore the consulting field
- I was looking for Supply Chain domain-specific consulting
Thus, Miebach being amongst best in SC & Operations consultancy became the natural choice. However, amidst pandemic times, the internship was virtual. So, to augment the experience, I arranged a small office-like set up in my room and signed up for faster data services.
Crisp selection process and a solid culture of Miebach Consulting
The selection process of doing an internship at Miebach Consulting involved a CV based shortlisting, followed by two rounds of case-based interviews.
Miebach Consulting embraces free, open, and collaborative culture. The quality of the projects which the company does is impressive and the ownership you get in the company is admirable. The combination of quality of work, independence, and environment is optimum to provide one a steep learning curve. Something that I cannot forget to mention is the leadership of Miebach. The senior leaders were maestro of their respective domains in the industry. I believe socializing with them would have been even great.
An internship equivalent to life-long learnings and beautiful experiences
I will be concise and crisp as one of the key learning was to be precise while putting points. So the major take away from my internship at Miebach Consulting are:
- Always do the high-level data check before diving deep
- Be clear about the assumptions while analyzing
- Know the strengths and weaknesses of the analysis and proposed solutions
- Always stick to the agenda during client calls
Apart from these learnings, there are a lot of instances of my internship at Miebach Consulting which shall remain close to my heart. Apparently, the working environment is fast-paced, dynamic, open, and collaborative. So, the entire team used to be up till late at night - brainstorming, review meetings, and preparing for client calls. As a result, we made a lot of memorable moments together.
Let me talk about one instance here; if I remember correctly, it was the first week of internship at Miebach Consulting when a very high profile meeting was scheduled. My fellow intern and I were wondering if we would be invited or not. When we lost all the hope of joining that meet, a pop-up message showed up in our group -
“Interns join, this is the meeting link and password."
At that instance, I felt inclusive and an important part of the team. Attending such a high profile meeting involving the global leaders of a large MNC is always an exceptional opportunity for an Intern.
