Engineers are weavers. They curate and build. They process ideas in a fashion that outstands the rest. Their technical knowledge allows brainstorming which crosses the boundaries of human imagination. They dream in a fantasy world of their own and braid thoughts into reality. Engineers assemble information and fabricate incredible things. Engineers turn dreams into reality. Still, a lot is left to be desired when talking about the employability and the future of an Engineer.

Marketing is closely related to the field of engineering. Only a few are aware of this fact. Defining objectives, building strategies and tactics to accomplish specific business goals is what marketing is all about. This definition allows us to break the marketing terminology into 3 respective fields.

Engineers are trained into being professionals who define objectives, especially with the numerous vivas they’re asked to sit for! Strategy building becomes their forte with the final year project they have to work on. Achieving targets (business goals) is what comes from their habit of submitting weekly assignments.

Where marketing had predominantly governed art a few decades back, science is what rules it today. Thus, engineers can make good marketers if the skills they possess are fine-tuned. Following this line of thought, we’re trying to bridge the gap between the field of engineering and marketing.

A few reasons why the future of an Engineer is bright as a marketer:

“The problem contains the solution”: Problem-solving skills

This is what makes engineers unique. Our passion for solving problems and creating out-of-the-blue solutions, makes us stand out. A basic skill required for marketing, engineers are crafted to identify and design solutions for the underlying grey area. We thus, find different approaches and draw conclusions and solutions which fit the best. Marketing requires individuals who can think on various different lines of thought and figure out the best amongst them. Engineers, however, are curated to do exactly that.

Handling data is the new cool

Having exceptional abilities to handle data, working on excel never is an issue for engineers. Restless to find the right answers, the maths and statistics section of our graduation study makes us perfect marketers. We are trained individuals who understand Boolean logic!

Pragmatic approach

A practical approach to decision making makes our solutions peculiar. They know for a fact that the coolest idea might not be realistic. They view things from different perspectives. Laying out pros and cons and mitigating risks help us create exit plans too. They are the ones who can break down cool ideas to give high performing results. Engineers are the ones who can get into the depth of an idea, find the soul stone and revive dead elements. They are replicas of Iron man. They curate new things and are always in search of a pragmatic approach to deal with situations.

The building block

“You know, it’s times like these when I realize what a superhero I am”, a famous dialogue by Tony Stark is a perfect explanation to describe the incredible creatures that engineers are. They love building things from scratch, building processes and working on integrating technologies to fabricate models specifically for the organization. They bring about innovation in their work which aligns perfectly with the requirements of a good marketer.

To sum up, engineers are competent individuals. They take up new tasks and deal with them in an efficient and effective manner. Marketing being a field which correlates with engineering proves to be an unparalleled field for making the transition. Engineers, can thus, revolutionize the world of marketing. They are the future of tomorrow’s marketing world.
