“Data is the new oil!”, is the popular saying these days. The world is rapidly heading towards an era that runs on data, making it an integral part of organizations’ framework. Acknowledging this fact, IIM Ahmedabad is all set to introduce a new course to its curriculum. A 16-month course, the institute recently confirmed that its “Post Graduate Programme in Advanced Business Analytics” will commence from the year 2020.
On announcement of the new course, the Director, Errol D’Souza talked about the rise of a large pool of unstructured data which could have vital embedded information. “This course enables students to deploy appropriate methodologies in order to extricate significant information from data and enrich decision making that unlocks values for all stakeholders”, he added.
PGP in Advanced Business Analytics is a course typically designed to help working professionals acquire knowledge and build relevant skills to seek the right questions. It will help them analyze data and draw effective conclusions from the insights. In addition to making effective decisions, the programme will focus on tying the strands of data literacy, processing and building business acumen. Acknowledging the need of the hour, the course is designed to enhance competency in the field of Analytics.
The PGP-ABA course will bring the individuals closer to the usage of analytical techniques and tools. Making them handle real-world problems across the various industry verticals, the course is structured to enhance their analytical problem-solving abilities. The students will get exposure to a variety of data tools and techniques with a comprehensive knowledge of the essential analytical methods and model development techniques.
The primary objective of this new course will be to train students to take up leadership roles and significant responsibilities in the organization. The Chairperson of PGP-ABA, Prof. Tathagata Bandyopadhyay shared his vision for the course. “Besides explaining the theoretical underpinning of the tools techniques, emphasis will be given to hands-on learning using a variety of data sets from various domains of applications. Finally, you’ll be exposed to domain-specific application of analytics in two chosen domains from different business vertical and Public Policy”, he said.
