IIM-Visakhapatnam to start Fellowship Programme in Management from the next academic year 2019-20

Ministry of Human Resource Development has recently permitted IIM Visakhapatnam to go-ahead with its own Fellow Programme in Management (FPM). This doctoral program will be launched in the upcoming academic year 2019-20 with 5 fellows.

The Fellow Programme in Management offered by the IIMs is equivalent to pursuing a PhD and is a full-time residential programme. The program is designed for research in all areas of business management, and with its globally recognized tag, it is considered a premier and rigorous course to pursue.

“Typically, FPM students would specialize in one of the areas like finance & accounting, marketing, entrepreneurship, management, organizational behaviour and Human resources, public policy etc. For the FPM programme, we need well-experienced faculty whom we plan to gain in due course. We would take the help of out mentor IIM Bangalore in FPM for the initial years,” M Chandrasekhar, the director of IIM Visakhapatnam was quoted as saying.

With the launch of this fellowship programme, IIM Visakhapatnam will be a debutant amongst all other newer IIMs established in 2015. The older IIMs like IIM Ahmedabad, IIM Bangalore, IIM Lucknow and IIM Kozhikode already has a provision for fellows to pursue research in the field of management.

In order to become completely independent IIM Visakhapatnam is also planning to start managing admissions on its own in the coming years. Currently, the admission process of IIM Visakhapatnam is managed by IIM Bangalore. The institution is in the due process of coming up with its independent campus at Gambheeran by 2021. The school currently operates from the premises of Andhra Bank School of Business (Andhra University).

IIM Visakhapatnam has decided to introduce a new 15-month Postgraduate Certificate Programme in Business Management for the Experienced Professionals (PGCEP) this September. With this launch, IIM Visakhapatnam will become only third IIM after IIM Bangalore and IIM Ranchi to offer on-campus executive management programmes while other IIMs conduct these programmes either online or partially online.
