IIT Bombay Tops The QS Ranking List

In a major boost, IIT Bombay has topped the list of QS Indian University Ranking this year. Quacquarelli Symonds, commonly known as QS is a British organization that brings out university rankings annually. QS Ranking is considered one of the famous performance indicators of the varsities and institutions globally.

This year, QS published its inaugural edition of the Indian University Ranking after surveying around 75 institutions spread across the length and breadth of the country. The rankings include Public Universities, Private Universities, and Deemed Universities.

“Performance criteria used for the Indian University Rankings is the same as we use for the QS BRICS Ranking. In the global tables, academic reputation carries 40 percent weightage, in the Indian edition it carries 30 percent. The World University Rankings focus on research impact (citations per faculty) and the domestic league looks at research productivity (number of papers per faculty).”

The India University Rankings is the second country-specific rankings done by QS, after it released one for China on October 10. As per Bizzozero, the Indian tables will be trailed by ones for Japan and South Korea. Nations like India and China are imperative for us due to the sheer number of local and international students. It is very important to publish local rankings table for the largest student markets. The India University Rankings take a gander at the Indian college framework and compare it with international standards. The organizations positioned in this table are those that have been exhibited in our BRICS positioning previously.

IIT-Delhi, IIT-Kharagpur, IIT-Kanpur, Hyderabad Central University, Delhi University, IIT-Roorkee, and IIT-Guwahati figure in the top 10.

These institutions have been scored on academic reputation (30 percent), employer reputation (20 percent), faculty-student ratio (20 percent), the proportion of staff with Ph.D. (10 percent), papers per faculty from the Scopus database (10 percent), citations per paper from Scopus database (5 percent), the proportion of international students (2.5 percent) and proportion of international faculty (2.5 percent).

With publishing, on one hand, is a matter of rejoicing, while on the other, it will boost the morale of the students and the faculty to perform even better so that they can improve their position in the global educational landscape. Currently, only the top 3 IIMs and ISB feature in the QS list of top 100 performing universities around the world.
