In order to pay homage and mark the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi on October 2nd, 2020, IIT Madras is all set to conduct webinars on the topics that are of national significance. IIT Madras has a fortnightly webinar series called ‘SIDDHI’ (Self-reliant India: Discussions and Dialogues for Humane Innovations) already in place that was launched on August 14th, 2020. The webinar that will be conducted on October 2nd will be a part of ‘SIDDHI’ as the “Health and Environment Week.”

Themes of national relevance 

The webinar will throw light on the following themes:

  • Socially relevant technologies
  • Technology and rural development
  • Technology for self-reliance 

All the students, researchers, and faculty members have worked hard to create the collaborative endeavor “SIDDHI” wherein they actively engage in projects that are sponsored by the Government of India. 

Other salient features

A litany of significant topics is lined up for discussion between October 1st, 2020 and October 4th, 2020. The series will be duly inaugurated by the Director of IIT Madras, Professor Bhaskar Ramamurthi on October 1st, 2020. Professor Ramamurthi remarked that he is happy that the issues related to health and the environment in India will be addressed by eminent personalities. The webinar has observed participation from every nook and corner of the society which reveals the importance of the themes to be discussed.

While the first session is on “Universal Health Coverage (UHC) in India”, the following session will be on “Designed for Independence: Enhancing Quality of Life for Persons with Disability.”

The final webinar will be conducted on October 4th, 2020 on the topic “Sustainable water and waste management in villages”, that will be moderated by Professor Ligy Philip and Professor B.S. Murty of IIT Madras.
