Summer Internship at IBM Bangalore, filled Aishwarya's heart, mind and soul!
I always wanted to work for a firm which was innovation-driven and offered the best profiles in the industry. Considering this, only one name comes to mind and that is IBM. It was a no brainer for me to apply for an internship at IBM Bangalore.
The selection process at IBM
The selection process for the internship at IBM primarily consisted of a Group Discussion followed by a Personal Interview. I think every B-Schooler has given numerous GDs and attended more than a few mock PIs with the hopes to excel at them when it matters.
My internship at IBM was for the Market Research and Advisory profile. During the course of my internship, I was able to hone many skills. Some of them are analytical reasoning, logical interpretations, data, communication skills, presentation skills, ability to work in a team, and interviewing skills, to name a few. My internship at IBM was all this and so much more. In most organizations, one gets to either work on their hard skills or soft skills. I went in with an expectation to refine my hard skills. But getting to improve on my soft skills was a pleasant surprise.
During the course of my internship, I learned that, while presenting my delivery rate was high compared to others. With the help of my mentor during the internship, I got to work that and was able to slow down. Who says slow is bad! Working closely with my mentor and on microscopic examination of my work, we found out that my key strength was digging. I discovered that I have the innate ability to delve deep into things to reach the roots and understand the very basis of every topic.
What did I learn during my Internship at IBM?
Analytical skills and fundamentals of core subjects can be learnt from any source. Almost anyone who is determined enough can work on their hard skills with the help of various learning tools and resources. In today’s world, there exists a dearth of soft skills and I am glad I got to enhance mine at IBM. The internship was truly a well rounded and holistic experience.
What added to the holistic experience was that I had to move to Bangalore for my internship. Imagine wearing green tinted glasses where nature never ceases to amaze you! Bangalore is perpetually green and pleasant. Add friends to the mix and you get yourself a picture perfect internship.
Internship at IBM Bangalore was a fun learning experience. Now I know what “fun learning” truly means. Given a chance, I would love to work at IBM because the kind of work I was involved in was very interesting. It is there I had a vision and I could see my work going places.
I still remember, our team outing was at Ritz-Carlton. It was grand beyond words and mesmerizing. I interacted with our team for the first time out of the office and in an informal way. This helped me get comfortable around them. There was another get together that I will always carry close to my heart. Kid's day was arranged at IBM and more than 150 kids attended. The entire floor was decorated with colors and cartoons. It was surreal to mingle and play with kids, distribute gifts, chocolates, and goodies. It was an eye-opening experience for me. My heart was bursting at the seams with love and joy! The kid in me was happy!
