Here's a piece of exciting and learning-packed news for all the science enthusiasts! The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), through the Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (IIRS), is welcoming applications from school understudies for a 5-days free certified online course, titled “Usefulness of Remote Sensing and GIS for Environmental Studies”.
Main focus of the course
- As indicated by an official notice on the IIRS website, the course targets bringing issues to light- amongst school teens on the core concept of Remote Sensing Technology- and its implication in the study of our environmental conditions and planet Earth.
- Students will be taught how one can employ data gathered from satellites orbiting the Earth and certain image processing techniques to understand the complexities of the climate.
- For starters, Remote Sensing Technology is a scientific process that aims at identifying and checking the actual attributes of space by estimating its reflected and discharged radiation from a distance, which can be done via satellite or airplanes.
- In-built thermal sensitive cameras on satellites can also be used to make pictures of temperature changes in our large water bodies.
