Learn Why An Internship at HPCL Was Only A Tip Of The Iceberg For Rachna
Grabbing an internship in the desired field is a difficult task. You often need to pull a few strings here and there. I, on the other hand, was lucky enough to land one in college. An internship at HPCL, Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited, was something a lot of my batch-mates were looking forward to. And guess what? I was the one to get selected.

What is the selection process for an Internship at HPCL?

The selection procedure comprised of two rounds.

  1. Group Discussion

  2. Personal Interview

Students shortlisted in the first round were only a handful. I was fortunate to have prepared well in advance for both, the group discussion and the personal interview.

Pursuing my MBA in operations, landing an internship in HPCL with a project on operations itself was only a tip of the iceberg. I had a lot on my plate to look forward to. For a person who loves traveling, I got an excellent opportunity to travel all the way to Pune for my internship. Getting a decent accommodation for a period of two months wasn’t easy and I had to seek help from my seniors who were already working in Pune. Living amongst the ones I knew, however, made this internship an even better experience for me.

What did I learn from my Internship at HPCL?

Some key takeaways for me were a few skills I acquired at HPCL. A few of the many skills I learned were observation skills, interpersonal skills, and problem-solving skills. These helped me grow as an individual in the course of the project.

Busy with the daily routine and project, I couldn’t hang out with my team-mates off the schedule. Even so, I did meet all the department heads during my stay at HPCL. I recall an instance from the day I attended the award ceremony, meant to felicitate the HPCL transporters. It was during that time when I got an opportunity to talk to the transporters of HPCL who shared the issues they face while working for the company. It was an eye-opener, knowing about the hassle these transporters have to go through. This also helped me immensely with my project.

If given a chance, I would definitely say yes to their offer, without blinking an eye. I would love to work amongst the best brains of the country. It would be an excellent opportunity to work at HPCL, both for my personal and career growth curve.
