Team Marvellous IIIT Bhubaneswar share their journey of becoming the National Finalists of Philips Code to Care Challenge 2019
What made us qualify for the Grand Finale?
10 teams made it to the Grand Finale. Every team was a tough competitor for us. Consisting of three members, we were friends even before the competition took off. Hailing from IIIT Bhubaneswar, CS Department, the three of us were skilled as Web Developers in JavaScript frameworks. The mission of our team was to look for real life problems existing in our society and solve them with the help of our technical abilities. Synchronising data across different devices to share real-time data was a challenge we faced which we resolved in the end.
The complementing skill-sets we possessed was our team’s forte. So, it was fun developing side-by-side, day in and day out. All of us had a common goal of solving the problem at hand. Because the three of us Web Developers and are like minded people, we didn't come across any major conflicts. We understood each other. The biggest plus point of our team was that we took each other's views seriously and tried to incorporate all the views to make a great solution.
The unbiased judgement and the valuable takeaways
The judgement quality was fair and transparent. Overall, the competition was really well organised. They took care of all the issues faced by the participants and provided enough support so that we could work on our idea.
The primary learning we garnered was to not focus on the technology that was used to build the application. We, instead, had to focus on the problem which the app was solving. It was intriguing to witness how easily computer science has managed to solve various problems prevailing in the healthcare industry. This was, undoubtedly, an awesome moment for us, during the course of the entire competition. To sum up, our journey, from the beginning to getting crowned as the National Finalists of Philips Code to Care Challenge 2019, was great!
