Living The Life of "Mike Ross" From "Suits" | Pankaj Bhalerao Internship At RBS (Royal Bank of Scotland)
I have previously worked with a company that deals in electricals and my role was in Manufacturing. RBS is a bank with backend operations based out of India. This gave me the opportunity to apply my previously acquired knowledge in the Financial sector. The challenge of applying knowledge from one industry to another excited me a lot and hence, my internship at RBS was a very organic decision.

The selection process for an internship at RBS comprises of 2 rigorous interviews. The interview panel had 3 members for each round. I was hired as an intern for External benchmarking and Robotics process automation.

My internship at RBS taught me a great deal. Some of those learnings are:

  1. Improving cross-functional business acumen

  2. Applying learnings from a classroom setting to real-world problems

  3. Communicating with CXOs

  4. Tweaking my ideas with the intention of implementing them in ongoing projects

I moved from Lucknow to Gurgaon for my Internship. DLF cyber city mesmerized me. This was the first time I traveled in Delhi Metro and I was staying in MDI for these two months. I felt as if I was living the characters of my favorite series "Suits".

During our Induction, we had a small networking Mela. Divided into small groups next, all interns were given 10 mins with each leader where we had to prepare notes about our leader. We asked questions related to their family background, interest outside work, what motivates them etc. Working in a team was a great learning experience. Above all, we discovered a whole new aspect of our leader which showed us that one needs to live a full life to be able to prosper on the professional front.

I still remember an instance where, as a part of data collection, I had to take a quotation from DLF. I tried contacting them and reached their office but I didn't even get to enter without an appointment. Eventually, I got help in acquiring the data from people on LinkedIn. Anytime someone says networking is an important aspect of an MBA, they couldn’t be more right.

We had weekly sessions of “Discover RBS” on VC. This gave us the opportunity to know what it takes to become a leader and how people’s careers have been transformed at RBS. We also met the country head of RBS services Mr. Pankal Patharphod and discussed projects and overall Internship program.

These are the reasons why I felt RBS has a warm and family-esque culture. People personally invest in your growth and happiness. In addition, it is more inclusive and open as a company. Given the opportunity, I would love to work with RBS.
