My fun and learning filled internship at ZenSar Technologies -By Komal Joshi from FMS Delhi
How much can one learn in 8 weeks working from home? Well, you’ll be surprised by my internship experience at ZenSar!
While we were still lost in the dark clouds of doubts and fear of offers getting revoked, the RPG team showed us every cloud has a silver lining. Not just the internship started on time, but also, they made sure to customize every activity according to the WFH situation to enhance our experience.
A well-equipped and smooth onboarding process
The onboarding was a cakewalk. Every minute was pre-planned, and every meeting started on time. Right from the leadership team of all 6 verticals to the HR Group, we got to interact with each one of them. Our every doubt, query, and question were answered by the senior executive team no matter how small it was! Not just that, the leadership team took out time over the 2 months to check with us on our expectations and the kind of progress we were making.
I still remember the first interaction with my Project Guide, Abhimanyu Bhatnagar. I had already received my project charter and it included some interesting deliverables like building a Lego model for a smart city and working on raspberry pi. But I was a bit doubtful if I would be able to give my 100% to that project given the shortage of resources during the COVID situation. Abhimanyu listened to my opinion patiently. He not only discussed this with other executives but also got the whole charter updated in less than 24 hours! I was overwhelmed and I can surely say this incident proved that I was working with the best in the industry!
Experiencing an effective-mentoring system
Mentors were always ready to take out time from their busy schedules and guide us on the project. It was a perfect combination of guidance along with giving ownership. We were free to explore and analyze to find multiple ways of getting a task done. Discussing the research with the mentors helped us to further strengthen our understanding and select the best possible alternative. We always had the liberty to change the approach and get the best possible outcomes according to us. I had always thought the role would involve a lot of tech exposure. However, I got to work on various other interesting aspects like financial modelling, forecasting according to multiple slews, pricing, pre-sales, playbook creation to name a few.
During my internship at ZenSar, I had the liberty of reaching out to all the Zensarians. Collaborating with Zensarians helped me understand the end to end working of different teams like Pre-Sales, Pricing, Marketing, Finance, and Sales. The task of requirement analysis turned out to be a new way to understand the working of a system integrator business like ZenSar. This being a completely new field, I improved my research and analysis skills to a great extent. Interactions helped me to understand the importance of a structured approach and actual implementation for multi-level optimization. I learned how to select the right metric and work on them. I further learned to take ownership of the outcomes and continuously find ways to improvise. Working on something that follows the blue ocean strategy, helped me put theory into practice.
When I joined the internship at ZenSar, I had a very narrow outlook on the business impact of decisions. Frequent interactions with mentors helped me understand the possibilities and ways of tackling issues. I realized how important it is to think broadly but at the same time narrow down certain challenges in order to have a concrete impact on day to day working.
A perfect fit of inside-out development
ZenSar stands true to its values:
GROW: It helps you to explore the unknown and grow continuously. Every single deliverable was designed in a way that challenged me to think and come up with innovative ways of completing a task.
LEARN: It encourages you to unlearn the old and learn new things. ZenSar helped me broaden my thinking and come up with a structured approach. The innovative project idea helped me to learn how to optimize at multiple levels and bring out the best.
OWN: ZenSar lets you own the project. It gives you the confidence of owning the outcomes.
ACHIEVE: Step by step, it builds a path for individuals to achieve their personal goals and work on professional outcomes. I am so glad I got to work in such a culture so early in my career.
It doesn’t end here. The best thing RPG taught me was – “Hello Happiness”
RPG aims for the physical, mental, and spiritual wellbeing through loads of online webinars. Every day starts with a Yoga workshop to help you get ready for the day. On Friday evenings, they make sure to have fun Zumba workshops. Not just this, they share interesting tips on getting sound sleep, reducing stress, and being fit. What an amazing organization that cares so much about its employees?
In order to get to know each other during the WFH situation, we had fun sessions every Friday. We played dumb charades, online quizzes, shared our lockdown cooking recipes and had some fun history talks with Vinayak. We even celebrated the birthdays and made lockdown nothing less than fun.
The RPG team has proved that they can turn any crisis into glory. I will cherish this journey of my internship at ZenSar forever and miss being a part of it. In these times of uncertainties, RPG opened a whole new world of opportunities! Thank You!
