No summer or winter breaks until 2022, notifies UGC

In its revised academic calendar for its session 2020-21, the University Grants Commission (UGC) has notified that the first-year classes will begin from November. It has also asked the varsities to conduct the classes six days a week where students will not get any summer or winter break, until 2022 in order to make up for the loss of the academic time.
Traditional teaching or online classes?
The Ministry of Home Affairs is yet to take a decision on the physical reopening of schools and colleges by November. In case they do not, the varsities are asked to conduct the first-year classes of undergraduate and postgraduate students via online platforms.
The academic calendar that was released by the UGC back in April formulated a complete guideline for the colleges regarding the conduction of examinations, mode of study, and the plan to reopen them. However, owing to the unabated situation that arose because of the pandemic, the new session that was about to begin in September has been delayed.
Classes to be held six days a week, no winter or summer breaks
Much of the academic time has been lost because of the pandemic and in order to compensate for the same, the Commission has taken this decision. To ensure that these students complete their three-year UG and PG programmes timely the UGC communicated to the colleges that these efforts are made to compensate for the loss of this period by curtailing the breaks (Summer, Winter, etc).
The UGC, in its revised academic calendar also communicated the new guidelines to the varsities. According to the same, universities and colleges need to wrap up the admission procedure for the first year UG and PG students by October 31st, 2020, and begin their classes from November 1st, 2020.
