Furthering India's job-push agenda, the Government of India has launched a new internship program offering INR 60,000 per annum to 1 crore youth over five years. The move, as announced in the Union Budget 2024, aims to provide internships to 1.25 lakh candidates in its first year. According to government sources, the scheme is being rolled out as a pilot program and shall offer opportunities from the top 500 companies in India.

- 12 months real-life exposure in India's top firms.
- Out of 12 months, at least 6 months of the training involves hands-on work in a business setting.
- Monthly assistance of INR 4500 by Government of India and INR 500 by Industry.
- One-time financial aid of INR 6000 for incidentals.
- Insurance coverage for every intern under Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana and Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana by Government of India

Prime Minister's Internship Scheme: Eligibility
Following the eligibility criteria for the PM internship scheme 2024:
- Candidate must be an Indian citizen
- Age limit: 21-24 years
- Must not be employed full-time or engaged in full-time education. (Note: Candidates enrolled in online or distance learning programmes are eligible.)
- Candidate must have completed Secondary School Certificate (SSC) or its equivalent, Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) or its equivalent, or hold a certificate from an Industrial Training Institute (ITI), a diploma from a Polytechnic Institute, or a graduation degree such as BA, B.Sc, B.Com, BCA, BBA, B.Pharma, etc.
Note: Government's reservation policy for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Other Backward Classes, and people with disabilities would apply to the internships offered under the Prime Minister Internship Scheme.
Who CANNOT apply for the internship?
- Graduates from IITs, IIMs, National Law Universities, IISER, NIDs, or IIITs.
- Individuals with advanced qualifications such as CA, CMA, CS, MBBS, BDS, MBA, PhD, or any master's degree or higher qualification (recognized by the UGC) are not eligible to apply.
- Anyone with the income of any of your family members exceeding INR 8 lakh for FY 2023-24.
- Government employees or anyone whose parents or spouse are regular government employees.
