In the latest edition of Rozgar Mela held in Bhopal on May 16, 2023, 71,000 recruits virtually received appointment letters from Prime Minister Narendra Modi. PM Modi also addressed the new recruits via video conferencing. This was the fifth installment of the Rozgar Mela.
Rozgar Mela is an event designed to boost employment opportunities for the youth. Organized by the Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship (MSDE), Rozgar Mela employs candidates in various government departments, at the Central and State levels.

The new recruits selected in the fifth installment will join various positions/posts like Gramin Dak Sevaks, Inspector of Posts, Commercial-cum-Ticket Clerk, Junior clerk-cum-Typist, Junior Accounts Clerk, Track Maintainer, Assistant Section Officer, Lower Division Clerk, Sub Divisional Officer, Tax Assistants, Assistant Enforcement Officer, Inspectors, Nursing Officers, Assistant Security Officers, Fireman, Assistant Accounts officer, Assistant Audit officer, Divisional Accountant, Auditor, Constable, Head Constable, Assistant Commandant, Principal, Trained Graduate Teacher, Assistant Registrar, Assistant Professor, among others.
Reports state that the newly inducted appointees will also get an opportunity to train themselves through 'Karmayogi Prarambh' - an online orientation course for all new appointees in various government departments.
What Exactly Is A Rozgar Mela?
As the name suggests, Rozgar Mela is an employment fair usually spread across a day or two. The first phase of Rozgar Mela was launched by PM Modi last year in October, with a focus on hiring employees for government jobs. At the time of launch, 75,000 new recruits received appointment letters.
Individuals between the age group of 18 to 35 are eligible to apply for jobs at the Rozgar Mela. Candidates should also have an academic qualification covering 8th/10th/12th Pass, ITI, Diploma, Graduates, etc., including the trained and certified candidates conforming to National Skills Qualifications Framework.
Rozgar Mela: Past Performance & Future Goals
As per reports, the five installments of the Rozgar Mela have so far given out appointment letters to around 3.57 lakh new recruits. Reports also state that the aim is to provide 10 lakh government jobs via the Rozgar Mela, before the next Lok Sabha election in 2024.
The Rozgar Mela will be conducted around 45 locations in the country. The recruitments are taking place across Central Government Departments as well as State Governments/UTs supporting this initiative.
According to the official notification at the time of the program’s launch, the recruitment will be done by ministries and departments either by themselves or through recruiting agencies such as UPSC, SSC, and Railway Recruitment Board.
