Here are the details of the 5 scholarships that you should know about.

1. ADB Japan Scholarship Programme

The first in this list of scholarships is the ADB Japan scholarship. It was established in April 1988 with financing from the Government of Japan.

Its goal is to provide well-qualified people from ADB's developing member nations with the chance to pursue graduate studies in economics, management, science and technology, and other development-related subjects at Asian and Pacific Region academic institutions.

The scholarship programme covers the following:

  • full tuition fees
  • a monthly subsistence and housing allowance
  • an allowance for books and instructional materials
  • medical insurance
  • travel expenses

The scholarship is for one year, with the possibility of an extension to the second year of study if the scholar maintains a satisfactory level of performance as judged by the institute.

What is the last date to apply for the scholarship?

The scholarship programme accepts applications throughout the year. But the candidates must send the applications at least 6 months prior to the time they wish to begin their studies.

2. Joint Japan-World Bank Graduate Scholarship Programme

The second in this list of scholarships is the joint Japan World Bank Graduate scholarship. This is given to students having citizens of certain developing countries with relevant professional experience.

It offers scholarships for 26 Participating Programs at universities in U.S., Europe, Africa, Oceania and Japan in key areas of development, including economic policy management, tax policy, and infrastructure management. 

The scholarship programme covers the following:

  • Full tuition fees
  • Monthly subsistence and housing allowance
  • an accommodation for books and study materials
  • Medical insurance from the university
  • Travel expenses

3. Aga Khan Foundation International Scholarship Programme

The third on this list of scholarships is the Aga Khan Foundation International Scholarship. Each year this foundation awards a limited number of postgraduate scholarships to outstanding students from select developing countries who have no other means of funding their studies, with the goal of developing effective scholars and leaders and preparing them for employment, primarily within the AKDN. Scholarships are provided on a 50/50 grant/loan basis once a year in June or July through a competitive application process. 

The Foundation prioritises requests for Master's level courses but will consider PhD applications only in the event of exceptional students who have been highly recommended for doctorate study by their teachers and who require a PhD to achieve their career goals.

The scholarship programme covers the following:

  • Full tuition fees
  • Living Expenses

Travel expenses are not covered under this scholarship.

Half of the scholarship amount is considered as a loan, which must be reimbursed with an annual service charge of 5% within a payback period of five years, starting six months after the study period funded by the Aga Khan Foundation.

4. Rotary Foundation Global Scholarship Grants for Development

The fourth in this list of scholarships is the Rotary Foundation Global Scholarship Grants for Development. This scholarship provides funding for graduate-level study or research over a four-year period. The scholarship covers coursework or research in one of the foundation's six areas of focus: peace and conflict resolution, disease prevention and treatment, water and sanitation, maternal and child health, basic education and literacy, economic and community development, and basic education and literacy.

The award for a global grant scholarship varies from US$30,000 to US$400,000, which can be used to pay for passport or visa fees, vaccinations, travel expenses (as specified in the grant terms and conditions), school supplies, tuition fees, housing, household supplies, and language training courses.

5. American University Emerging Global Leader Scholarship

The last scholarship that the students can go for is the prestigious ANSO scholarship. This scholarship is for high-achieving international students pursuing a bachelor's degree in the United States that are committed to constructive civic and social change. It is aimed at overseas students going home to help underserved and under-resourced areas in their native countries.

It can be renewed for up to four years of undergraduate education if academic performance is good.

The scholarship programme covers the following:

  • Full tuition fees
  • Living Expenses

The scholarship does not cover travel expenses, book expenses, medical insurance or any other miscellaneous expenses.
