A chemical engineering undergraduate at IIT Kharagpur, Vibhuti’s journey to this prestigious college, wasn’t duck soup. The battle was fierce, as is the case with JEE, where every year, more than 1.5 million students aspire to clear the entrance examination to get into the premier engineering institutes of the country. The Kota Factory, it pans out, is one such locus, known to assist people in cracking JEE. A product herself, Vibhuti Singhania talks about the struggles of a JEE aspirant and how the right environment gives a direction to your preparation journey.
Intrigued and inspired by a cousin brother, studying at IIT Bombay, Vibhuti had dreamt of pursuing her graduation in engineering from an IIT. Her determination and interminable hard work helped her crack JEE and pave her way into IIT Kharagpur in her second attempt. Vibhuti explains how the second year of her preparation was more focused and discusses the aspects which played a significant role.
Before you step into the battleground, you must have all your tools in place. Practice is the key. To nail the examination, your preparation should have the right bolts. It must be equipped with motivation and a desire to perform better than the others. A crucial factor that steps in here is the environment around you, says Vibhuti. While you can get deviated and be laid back at home, studying in an environment where even the air around you speaks of JEE, helps you stay motivated and “study harder”.
Located on the banks of river Chambal, stands the city famous for Silk sarees. But amidst this fame, lies the obscure crowd of JEE preparation, which in itself is a town of its own. The Kota Factory, as students now like to call it, had yet another addition to its fraternity, Vibhuti Singhania.
Away from distractions, Vibhuti’s sole purpose in the drop year was to get through an IIT. A year at Kota had prepped her with the essential tools. Discussing doubts and collective study groups played to her advantage. Where Mathematics was her favourite subject and Chemistry was “scoring”, she struggled to perform well in Physics, mentions Vibhuti, when asked about her strong and weak subjects.
Though the environment is a major factor which influences your preparation, Kota isn’t the solution. The footfall of students in Kota, every year, is in lakhs. Out of the many, only a few make it to the IITs. Interest, as Vibhuti quotes, is a principle element which steps in here. If you aren’t drawn to the JEE like bees are to flowers, your preparation might not land you anywhere. Putting forth this crucial point, she adds that she herself wanted to pursue engineering and wasn’t forced by her parents for the same. This played a major role in paving her path into the coveted college.
A National Finalist at Optum Stratethon, Vibhuti further discusses how she is inclined towards the field of Data Science and how her interest made her participate in the competition. To know more about the tricks to nail JEE, the one-woman army at Optum Stratethon and the Chemical Engineer turned Data Scientist, Vibhuti Singhania, stay tuned!
