What I learnt during my internship at Nutanix -By Meetali Saxena from SIBM Pune

"If I'm experiencing a different thing every day and seeing a new environment every day, it can create a different mood or different feeling" quotes Alessia Cara. I second this thought while working at Nutanix. The virtual internship experience was nice and smooth with enjoyable and learning-packed meetings and sessions right from the day of on-boarding. Here is an account of my internship experience.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, I joined virtually as a Human Resource intern at Nutanix for two months. This short stint allowed me to experience the amazing work culture within the organization. During my internship, which presented me with global exposure, I considered myself fortunate to be a part of the People and Development Culture (PDC) team in the US. Driving diverse employee development programs, the PDC team has been a facilitator in creating an exceptional learning environment consistent with its values.

Unparalleled internship experience at Nutanix

The 12 core culture principles that form the base of building relationships with employees, partners, customers, and stakeholders at Nutanix, are not just on paper but are practiced in day to day work activities and interactions. It characteristically differentiates Nutanix from other organizations. The decision-making process is dynamic and effective in this competitive world with a lot of innovative approaches to accomplish the task.

In Nutanix the employees are valued possessions and a part of one family i.e. Nutants (a term for Nutanix employees). The opinions and suggestions are carefully heard and taken into consideration for the launching of any new activity, improvement in an existing process, etc. I admire the feedback tool they use to encourage and thank each other for their valuable contribution. I feel this inculcates a sense of gratitude among employees and makes them considerate of each other. There hasn't been a single day when I have felt like being just an intern. I was treated and felt a part of this family. I appreciate this gesture.

As Benjamin Franklin quotes "Tell me and I forget, teach me and I may remember, involve me and I learn." I had experienced these words when interacting and mentoring from the leaders. They illustrate the true essence of their role. Being supportive, encouraging, and open to new perspectives is intrinsic in all leaders at different levels. An example of this being was my manager, Lauren. She played a vital role in making my journey a good learning experience at Nutanix. Always supporting, encouraging, and open to new ideas/discussions are some of her traits that inspired me. I want to mention the interactive sessions that employees can hold with the CEO, Mr. Dheeraj Pandey being so humble and approachable. His interactions on the communication channel of Nutanix and cordial relations with employees illustrates his humanistic quality and willingness to stay connected with employees.

Learnings garnered at Nutanix

Nutanix is a lot more than just an organization as I mentioned earlier, it is a family. It is inspiring to see people being this curious and enthusiastic to accomplish their goals. However, the motivation wasn't a one-day activity rather it is deeply integrated into the intention of giving their best shot every time. The kind of work culture is amazing to see. I feel privileged to get a chance to become a part of this esteemed organization.

I tried to exercise Thomas H. Huxley's words, "Try to learn something about everything and everything about something". The journey with Nutanix has been exciting and is filled with personal and professional learnings. I am thankful to everyone, with whom I have ever interacted as they have contributed to making me a better person.
