A multinational corporation based in La Défense, Courbevoie, (the outskirts of Paris) in France, Compagnie de Saint-Gobain S.A. was founded in the year 1665 as a mirror manufacturer. A component of the Euro Stoxx 50 stock market index, the company is now a manufacturer of a variety of construction and high-performance materials such as glass, ceramics, plastics, abrasives, gypsum plasterboards and many more. With a global presence in 68 countries, Saint-Gobain employs more than 180,000 people around the globe. Mergers & Acquisitions:
- Chryso: a leading global player in the construction chemicals market furnishing distinguished and innovative solutions, from funds advised by Cinven, the international private equity firm. Chryso provides comprehensive additives solutions for sustainable construction, relying on innovative chemistry, formulation expertise, and knowledge of construction materials. The company employs about 1300 employees and generated over the last twelve months revenues above €400 million and an EBITDA of €85 million.
- Pritex: a key player in acoustic and thermal insulation solutions (made from polymer-based composite materials and intended for the mobility market), Pritex was acquired by Saint-Gobain in May 2019, as a step to expand the business of Saint-Gobain High-Performance Solutions’Mobility business unit beyond automotive glazing and become a provider of solutions in the mobility market for comfort, safety and energy-saving.
- SimTek Fence: an industry innovator of fence products, SimTek Fence was acquired by Saint-Gobain in July 2017 through its American subsidiary CertainTeed Corporation, since SimTek’s fence products complement the siding portfolio within Saint-Gobain's Exterior Products.
- HyComp LLC: an Ohio-based manufacturer of advanced proprietary components for the aerospace and industrial markets, HyComp LLC was acquired by Saint-Gobain’s Performance Plastics business in March 2018 as an opportunity to broaden their portfolio of critical parts for high-temperature and long-life applications in aerospace and industrial applications.
- Scotframe: as a step to complement the Building Distribution portfolio in the country, accelerating the involvement in the Off-Site Manufacturing and closed panel construction market, Saint-Gobain has completed the acquisition of Scotframe Limited in the UK as of November 2017.
- Maxit Group: a manufacturer of industrial mortars, Maxit group was acquired by Saint-Gobain from HeidelbergCement in August 2007, as a step to build its presence in Construction Markets, doubling its size in industrial mortars and in particular strengthens its ETICS (External Thermal Insulation Composite System) solutions.
Corporate Social Responsibility:
Saint-Gobain Group in India focuses on a few, specific priority actions under each of the five broad areas within the global framework of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). These five broad areas are:
- Inventing and Promoting Sustainable Buildings: Saint-Gobain is leveraging a unique innovation model in which local innovations receive corporate support and are shared across the different businesses with the aim to meet the challenges of sustainable development.
- Limiting Environmental Impact: all sites owned and operated by Saint-Gobain in India have begun monitoring and reporting on CO2 emissions, taken steps to reduce the amount of withdrawals and discharges, most sites have undertaken rainwater harvesting projects, have invested in ETPs and STPs and recycle and reuse a significant part of their water consumption, have ongoing projects aimed at reducing the generation of waste and increasing the recycling of waste, and started complying with local requirements, while also following the Group’s global standards.
- Encouraging Employees' Professional Growth: Saint-Gobain’s CSR and HR policies define the health and safety of its employees and exemplary management as essential. The Company launched in 2013 a new Health Policy which is currently being implemented in India and is also keen to extend support to initiatives for differently abled people as a part of their CSR agenda.
- Supporting Community Development: the Group besides creating new direct jobs through investments also creates several upstream and downstream indirect jobs. One of the manufacturing sites of the Glass Business has a Vocational Training Center accredited to DGET which operates to impart training on material handling operations, dispatch operations, warehouse operations and glass handling.
- Saint-Gobain India Foundation (SGIF): with the basic intention to facilitate life and livelihood through education of deprived children with center attention to educating the girl child, the Saint-Gobain India Foundation partners with NGOs having a proven track record.
