Coalescence
#Center for Entrepreneurial leadership BITS GoaLet's see, what Coalescence is all about?
Coalescence is the flagship E‑Summit of BITS Pilani’s Goa campus, organized by the student-run Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership (CEL). It serves as a platform for aspiring entrepreneurs to “showcase their ideas and innovations” through startup competitions, workshops and founder talks. Coalescence is “an entrepreneurial fest like no other, graced by the presence of successful millionaire entrepreneurs,” aimed at inspiring and guiding students. Each edition has a theme – for example, Coalescence 2024 was billed “Pioneering Limitless Possibilities” – underscoring its focus on pushing the boundaries of innovation.
Events and Activities
Coalescence features a blend of talks, panels, workshops and contests. Key events include:
-
Keynote Sessions: One-hour talks by industry visionaries (followed by Q&A) that share success secrets and startup insights
-
Panel Discussions: Interactive panels on entrepreneurship – e.g. a “Shark Tank”–style panel with actual Shark Tank India entrepreneurs, and VC/YC panels featuring funded startup founders
-
Workshops & Conferences: Hands-on workshops (e.g. on fintech case challenges, personal branding, “Startup Treasure Hunt” exercises) and conference tracks where founders share startup stories, giving students practical know-how
-
Competitions: Startup case competitions and pitch events (e.g. business model and case-study contests) with substantial prize money (in 2024 ~₹5 lakh total) awarded to winners
-
Networking Opportunities: Dedicated networking sessions (including a formal “Networking Night” and a concluding Startup Showcase) where students can meet founders, investors and mentors.
Each of these elements gives attendees a chance to learn, compete and connect. For example, Coalescence’s schedule explicitly lists startup quizzes and business-canvas contests alongside panels and pitches.
Audience and Impact
Coalescence targets college students and young entrepreneurs, but actively brings in startup founders, investors and industry leaders as mentors and judges. Its mission is to connect “aspiring entrepreneurs” (primarily students) with the broader startup ecosystem. In practice this draws a large, campus-wide audience: recent editions have drawn 5,000+ attendees from 110+ colleges nationwide. The summit’s scale is notable – in 2024 over 30 founders and business leaders, plus dozens of investors and BITS alumni, took part in the networking and showcase events. In short, Coalescence serves both the BITS Goa student community and the wider startup community, offering students exposure to real entrepreneurs and funding opportunities.
Distinguished Speakers and Partners
Coalescence consistently attracts high‑profile speakers and partners. Past speakers have ranged from startup unicorn founders to celebrities – for example, Ashneer Grover (BharatPe co‑founder), Nikhil Kamath (Zerodha co‑founder), Rajat Sharma (India TV chairman), Kunal Shah (CRED founder), Bhuvan Bam (YouTube creator) and Taapsee Pannu (Bollywood actress) have all addressed Coalescence. The 2024 edition’s lineup included entrepreneur and author Ankur Warikoo (as chief guest) and startup founders like Rajesh R. Dembla (Zoozle) and Saurabh Bothra (Habuild). Organizers also highlight strong industry support: over 30 corporate and media partners back Coalescence, providing sponsorship and mentorship. This industry engagement, together with alumni ties, helps bring real-world context to the summit.
Unique Features
Coalescence incorporates several standout elements that set it apart from typical college fests:
-
ACT Conference: A celebrity-driven talk segment where noted business personalities and innovators share their success stories. This on-stage conference (“ACT conference”) features high-profile guests and is a marquee part of Coalescence.
-
Shark Tank Panel: A unique collaboration with the Shark Tank India franchise – one panel is explicitly composed of founders who have appeared on Shark Tank India. The 2024 “Shark Tank” panel included founders from Uncle Peter’s Pancakes, Rize Bar and others, allowing students to learn directly from TV entrepreneurs.
-
Creators’ Conclave: A dedicated panel for social-media and content creators to discuss entrepreneurship and creative careers. This “Creators’ Conclave” recognizes the influence economy as part of modern startups.
-
Networking Night & Startup Showcase: An informal networking event where founders, investors and students interact through exercises, games and pitches. In 2024 some 30+ founders and 25+ Goa business leaders attended the networking night, and the concluding Startup Showcase brought investors for student pitches.
-
Industry Engagement: The summit’s broad industry involvement – over 30 corporate/media partners and mentorship by startup veterans. – gives it a professional scale. Its prize pool and partnerships (for example, collaboration with BITS Spark’s Novatia program in prior years) are larger than many college events.
