About Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Bombay
- Established in 1958, the second of the IIT family, IIT Bombay was the first to be set up with foreign assistance.
- Located in Powai, one of the northern suburbs of Mumbai, the residents of IIT Bombay reap the advantage of being in the busy financial capital of India, while at the same time enjoying the serenity of a campus known for its natural beauty.
- It is a fully residential institute having 15 hostels with in-house dining and it also provides excellent amenities for sports and other recreational facilities.
- The institute campus at Powai extends over 200 hectares and is situated in picturesque surroundings with the Vihar and the Powai lakes on either side and green hills in and around.
- IIT Bombay Song: During the sixties, the Institute picked a song to call of its own - a Rabindranath Tagore's original translated from the Bengali. The worshipper in the song asks the 'Infinite One' to grant them, among other virtues, enlightenment, diligence, and fearlessness: arguably the prime ingredients of the academic spirit. The reproductions here are in the Devanagari and in its transliterated form.
