Floating Concrete - Innovation & Design Competition

• Two-third of the world’s surface is covered with water. Researchers all over the world are attempting to develop Floating Concrete. There is an enormous potential of application associated with Floating Concrete. The preliminary idea is to develop slabs from Floating Concrete to accommodate structures over it.The Faculty of Technology at CEPT University invites you to participate in "Floating Concrete”, an innovation and design competition. The competition seeks to inculcate the idea of innovation in concrete along with propelling mindsets towards future development goals.

• The Participating team size must not be over 3.
• Students in their ultimate/penultimate (Both Under-graduate & Post-graduate) year of engineering studies are allowed to participate.
• Students can seek advice from faculty members to achieve better outcomes.

The Challenge:

• The competition's main objective is to persuade the participants to learn about, develop, and experiment with floating concrete. This competition presents a brilliant opportunity for the participants to create a base for their research or thesis topics. Also, it aims to inspire the participants to explore different types of raw materials & admixtures.

• The participants must do literature study, perform trial mixes to develop floating concrete, and prepare their floating concrete cuboid (600mm*600mm*150mm) (please refer “Final Product” page for dimensions & details) at their respective colleges. For submission, the participants need to bring the module to CEPT University, Ahmedabad on 10th December 2022 till 10:00am. After the submission of specimen participants will present their documented process to the jury.

The Deliverables:

• A module (1 nos.) as shown on “Final Product” page in competition brief with provided dimension and giving justice to the topic - Floating behaviour of concrete
• Participants need to prepare and exhibit a PowerPoint presentation (max. 10 slides) covering the following on the day of event covering:
  • i) Literature review – Soft copy of papers referred
  • ii) Proportions of raw materials used, with additives if any
  • iii) Details of trial mixes
  • iv) Documentation in the form of Photos & Videos which shows involvement of participants for batching, mixing, casting, compacting & curing of concrete (with timestamp).

General Details:

• The competition wil be conducted offline.
• The date of the event is 10th December, 2022.
• Venue - CEPT University, Ahmedabad.
• There are no fees for registration.
• The last date to register for the competition is 3rd November, 2022.
