All that you need to know about Karmbhoomi
“I did something that challenged the banking world. Conventional banks look for the rich; we look for the absolutely poor. All people are entrepreneurs, but many don't have the opportunity to find that out.”
-Muhammad Yunus,
Bangladeshi economist and founder of the Grameen Bank,
Microfinance, has quite literally re-defined the way finance is taken to rural India. The last 30 years has seen microfinance having an enormous impact on rural development. Institutions which belied conventional models which were primarily helpful in expanding financial services to unchartered territories, using technology and innovations to serve more clients in increasingly remote communities, and offering them an ever-wider range of products. When a vast majority of poor were looking for a reliable, secure and convenient source of funds, microfinance was the answer they were looking for.
If this was its social face, Microfinance as an industry has been a flourishing one. It saw one institution being welcomed with both arms by the Indian equity markets, making a stellar debut. With wide ranging debates about the rights and wrongs in the industry, committees and regulators training their guns on the industry as a whole, Microfinance is all but a „Quiet‟ sector.
So, here we present a chance to you to put yourself in the hot seat in this sector, and prove your acumen. Are you up for the challenges? Do you have it in you, to strike a balance between policy, ethics and profits? If yes, GIM Samriddhi – Karmbhoomi is the place to be.
