Trade-Ometry: Mock Stock Trading Event

Event Overview:

TradeO-metry is a dynamic three-round competition that blends mathematical aptitude with stock market strategy. Teams will first attempt a math-based quiz to determine their initial capital for trading. In the following two rounds, they will invest in fictional stocks, adapting to unpredictable market fluctuations influenced by news and rumors. The objective is to maximize portfolio value while ensuring financial discipline.  

Guidelines:

Event Date: 26th March 2025 

Timings: 1PM to 3 PM

Eligibility & Team Formation:

• Open to all students registered with an educational institution.                               
• Teams can have up to 3 members.                                                                               
•  Cross-college teams are allowed.

Round 1: Mathematical Aptitude Test

• Format: A team-based quiz covering percentages, profit & loss, probability, and financial calculations.  
• Duration: 20 minutes.  
• Scoring Impact: Higher scores lead to a bigger initial investment budget.  
• Base Budget: ₹10,00,000 for all teams.  
• Bonus Allocation Based on Quiz Performance:  
  
  • Top 5 teams → Base budget + ₹1,00,000
  • Next 10 teams → Base budget + ₹50,000 
  • Next 15 teams → Base budget + ₹25,000
  • Remaining teams→ No additional funds (Base ₹10,00,000 only).  

Round 2: Mock Stock Trading (News & Rumors Begin) 

• Starting Capital: Teams begin with their base amount + any bonus earned in Round 1.
• Trading Structure: Teams will buy, sell, or hold stocks across multiple trading cycles
• Market Events: Two rounds of news and rumors will be introduced, impacting stock prices unpredictably.  
• Stock Prices: Fluctuations will be based on in-game events, demand, and team decisions.
• End of Round 2: Teams will carry forward their total capital (including profits/losses) into Round 3.

 Round 3: Advanced Trading & Market Volatility

• Capital Carry-Forward: Teams will trade using their total capital from Round 2.
• Additional News & Rumors: More market events will be introduced to create volatility and test adaptability.  
• Self-Assessment: Teams must calculate their own profits and losses after each trading round.
• Financial Discipline:                                                                                                                  
• If  team exceeds their available budget, they will be immediately disqualified.                       
• The organizing team will verify calculations and reserves the right to disqualify teams in case of discrepancies.  
• Final Portfolio Valuation: The team with the highest final portfolio value wins.  

General Rules & Regulations:

• Fair Play: No external resources, devices, or outside assistance allowed during Round 1.
• Market Ethics: Teams cannot collaborate or share trading strategies with others.  
• Decision Deadlines: All buy/sell decisions must be finalized within the given time for each round. 
• Budget Compliance: Teams must not exceed their total available capital at any point.
• Dispute Resolution: The organizing team has the final say in any case of misconduct or disputes.
