This assessment evaluates participants’ proficiency in Open-Source Intelligence (OSINT) techniques and their awareness of common online scams and frauds. It covers practical skills in investigating digital footprints, verifying information, and identifying fraudulent activities using freely available online tools. Successful completion certifies a solid understanding of cyber scam detection and OSINT fundamentals, helping professionals and enthusiasts enhance their digital investigation capabilities.

OSINT & Digital Forensics Submission

In this round, participants must submit either a detailed investigation report or a blog link (Medium, Hashnode, etc.). The submission should include methodology, evidence, and clear findings. Along with this, answer the reflection question: what you learned from the CTF, your understanding of Trustoryx, research on a new scam type, and how people can protect themselves. Submissions will be evaluated on clarity, depth, originality, and practical impact.

The Trustoryx Scam Awareness CTF – OSINT Challenge (First Edition) is an exclusive online event designed to educate and empower participants on the critical skills of Open-Source Intelligence (OSINT) and digital scam awareness. This challenge aims to simulate real-world cyber investigation scenarios, helping participants build practical expertise in detecting and preventing online frauds, phishing schemes, fake job offers, and other digital scams.

Eligibility

This event welcomes participants from diverse backgrounds, including engineering students, MBA candidates, undergraduate and postgraduate students, fresh graduates, cybersecurity enthusiasts, and experienced professionals. Whether you are a novice eager to learn OSINT techniques or a seasoned investigator wanting to test your skills, this challenge is tailored to provide value and growth opportunities for all.

Event Format and Process

The challenge consists of two main rounds:

  1. OSINT Skills & Scam Awareness Quiz (Assessment Round):
    Participants will complete an online quiz covering fundamental and advanced OSINT concepts and scam detection knowledge. This round is designed to assess theoretical understanding and practical application of OSINT tools and investigative methodologies. The quiz includes multiple-choice questions, scenario-based queries, and problem-solving tasks. No coding or advanced technical setup is required.

  2. OSINT & Digital Forensics Submission (Final Round):
    In this round, participants will receive a real-world inspired digital scam case to investigate using OSINT and basic forensic techniques. They are expected to analyze the case, gather evidence, and prepare a comprehensive report including detailed findings, screenshots, and explanation of tools used. This hands-on submission tests practical investigative skills and ability to present a coherent and well-structured analysis.

Rules and Guidelines

  • Individual or team participation (up to 3 members per team) is allowed.

  • All investigations must utilize publicly available OSINT tools and resources. Use of unauthorized or illegal tools is strictly prohibited.

  • Participants must submit original work and reports. Plagiarism or copying will lead to disqualification.

  • The final report must include verifiable evidence, clearly documented steps, and logical conclusions.

  • Timely submission of assessments and reports within the specified deadlines is mandatory. Late entries will not be considered unless prior approval is granted.

  • Participants are encouraged to maintain ethical standards and respect privacy laws while conducting investigations.
