Disruptor: Stages and Timelines

Idea Submission Round

Teams will be given 3 frameworks for business ideas based on Environment, Social & Governance (ESG) areas to choose from. They will then have to submit their idea, focusing on tackling any one of these issues in the form of an executive summary, in a templatized 1-page document/ 2-slide PPT/ 2-minute video not exceeding 15 MB.

Masterclasses

The executive summaries received will be evaluated, and Top 100 ideas will be eligible for exclusive masterclasses with Welspun leaders.

Video Submission Round

Post the masterclasses, qualifying teams will submit a 10-minute video on their ideas proposed in Round 1, justifying their solution along with an Execution Model, Prototype and P&L Statement. Teams can get creative with the video, use animation, props, backdrops and more to make their submission compelling.

Grand Finale

Final teams will present their 10-minute presentation ideas to the Welspun investors virtually, followed by a 5-minute Q&A round. Based on their presentation delivery, investors will identify the Top teams and crown them as winners!

Stakeholders are engaging with organizations attentive towards environmental sustainability, social responsibility, and good governance. Investors are also analyzing a company’s sustainable ESG execution plan before putting their money in it. 

Amidst this, Welspun Group endeavors to bring together young talent with innovative and disruptive ideas of incorporating sustainable ESG solutions into the business. Welspun Group strongly believes in achieving sustainable growth and is looking for young leaders who envisage creating a similar, better future with their game-changing business ideas that transform the industry by innovation.

We're not on the lookout for something straight and simple. Instead, the quest is for ideas that seek to do good by disrupting the current order. We’re looking for groundbreaking ideas, breathtaking impact - the beginnings of a Unicorn. An innovation that stands out with a mind-boggling, staggering idea that throws the industry off the kilter.

If you have what it takes, Welspun Group will invest in you.

We know businesses are not built in a day. So if you have a game-changing idea, we will guide you through it. The top teams filtered from the registrations received in Round 1, will attend master classes with business leaders from Welspun, who will support the development of the concept and prepare the idea further before presenting it to our illustrious investors.

Eligibility: 

  • The competition is open to all undergraduate and postgraduate students above the age of 18, across the country.
  • Working professionals are not eligible for Disruptor. 
  • Participation can only be in a team of 2-4 members.
  • Students from exchange programs can also participate, however, at most one student per team can be on the exchange program, and at least two students should be present during each level of the competition.

General Guidelines:

  • Students can be from any specialization and cross-specialization teams can participate.
  • Team members should be from the same college.
  • An individual cannot be a part of more than one team.
  • Participants are supposed to create and submit original and self-thought business plans, not duplicating any existing business ideas. Proposals received will be strictly verified.
  • Any deviation from the aforementioned guidelines will result in the immediate disqualification of the entire team.
  • The decisions of the evaluators and investors will be final and binding on all participants.
  • Welspun retains the right to use and publish all submissions including the contents of pitch documents.
  • The decision of qualifications in each round, final winners, and judgment on all entries lies with Welspun Group alone.

Competition Structure: 

(1) Idea Submission Round-

  • Only registered teams can access the framework for their business ideas post 16th August 2021.
  • Only one solution per team is allowed. Solutions once submitted cannot be changed.
  • If you face any issue while uploading the submission try uploading it in incognito mode.
  • Teams need to upload the submission latest by 26th August'21, 11:59 PM on the competition page itself.
  • Submission guidelines:
    1. Teams will be given 3 frameworks for their business ideas based on ESG to choose from. Teams will have to submit their ideas in the form of a templatized executive summary.
    2. The executive summary must be in the templatized form of a 1-page document/ 2-slide PPT/ 2-minute video not exceeding 15 MB.
    3. For video submissions, teams can compress their videos through this link- https://www.ps2pdf.com/compress-mp4
    4. Submissions will be evaluated on Problem Identification and Relevance, Innovativeness, Creativity, the feasibility of Implementation, and the Impact (in terms of cost, time impact, impact on beneficiaries, etc.)
    5. Details of the executive summary must include:
      • Theme (mention if the framework chosen comes under Environment, Social or Governance issues)
      • The problem statement
      • Analysis/proposed solution to the problem statement (Your big idea)
      • Execution (in brief your strategic plan/structure to reach organizational goals)
      • Naming convention: TeamName_Theme

(2) Masterclasses-

From the executive summaries received, the top 100 ideas will be shortlisted and will be eligible for exclusive masterclasses with Welspun leaders. Participating teams will be trained to submit a detailed business plan with an Execution Model, Prototype, and P&L statement.

To prepare you for the grand finale, 90-minute masterclasses will be scheduled covering the following:

  1. What qualifies as a business idea and how can it be built? What is ESG? Why and how to incorporate it into a business plan?
  2. Why is a prototype important and how to create it?
  3. How to create a P&L statement?

(3) Video Submission Round- 

  • Post the masterclasses, teams will submit a 10-minute video on the ideas submitted in Round 1, justifying the solution along with an Execution Model, Prototype and P&L statement.
  • Teams can get creative with the video, use animation, props, backdrops and more to make the presentation compelling.
  • The presentation should address:
    • The issue and its proposed solution
    • The focus of the opportunity of the solution
    • The rationale behind proposing such a solution
    • How the solution will address the given problem statement

(4) Grand Finale-

  • Final teams will present their 10-minute presentation ideas to the Welspun investors virtually, followed by a 5-minute Q&A round
  • Based on the teams' presentation delivery, investors will identify the top teams as winners
  • Criteria of evaluation include:
    • Problem Identification and relevance 
    • Innovation and creativity in building the solution
    • Research and feasibility of implementation
    • Scenario planning and prototype
    • Business and long-term impact
    • Presentation
