Carnatic Solo Vocal Competition

Competition Rules & Regulations:

• Solo Carnatic Vocal Performances Only – The competition is strictly for solo vocalists. Semi-classical, film-based, or light music performances are not allowed.
• Accompaniment: Each performer can have up to 2 accompanists (e.g., Mridangam, Violin, Tambura). The use of an electronic tanpura is permitted.
• No Group Singing – Performances must be solo only, with no group entries.

Competition Rounds:

• Swara Pravesha (Introductory) – 2 minutes: This round allows you to present a brief introductory performance, setting the stage for your subsequent rounds. Focus on showcasing your vocal control and style.
• Bhaava Raaga (Thematic) – 4–5 minutes: In this round, you'll perform a raga that conveys a specific emotion or "bhava." This is a chance to demonstrate your ability to connect the emotional depth of the raga with your vocal expression.
• Raga Prayoga (Challenge) – 5–6 minutes: The challenge round will test your ability to creatively explore and improvise within a raga. This will highlight your understanding of raga structure, ornamentation (gamakas), and rhythmic precision.

Important Information:

• Time Limit: Each round has a specified time frame, so make sure you practice to stay within the limits.
• Accompaniment Guidelines: Ensure your accompanists are familiar with the structure of the performance. While electronic tanpura is allowed, all other instrumentalists must be traditional.
