Design-A-Thon: Stages and Timelines

Round 1 - User Research Task

  • Participants will perform user research, including creating user personas or evaluating designs of major companies or major projects of your choice.
  • The case study must present key insights, highlight design issues, and propose practical solutions to improve the user experience and functionality.
  • NOTE : You don’t have to make whole visual design for the problem statement

Round 2- Offline Round at IIITN Campus

The offline round is a 12-hour design competition held at the IIITN Campus. - During the Offline Round, participants will tackle problem statements derived from the top submissions of Round 1. These problem statements will be detailed case studies requiring comprehensive design solutions. - Participants are required to tackle real-world design challenges by creating user-centric solutions. This involves researching user needs, identifying design issues, proposing improvements, and implementing solutions that enhance the overall user experience. Participants will develop wireframes, prototypes, and other design deliverables to address the problem statements provided. - Teams are free to use any design tools or methodologies at their disposal. This includes but is not limited to digital design tools, prototyping software, and collaborative platforms. - The competition environment encourages creativity, practical problem-solving, and effective communication. Teams will be judged on the functionality, creativity, user experience, visual appeal, and adherence to design principles in their solutions. - During the Offline Round, participants will encounter a series of surprise twists and restrictions designed to test their adaptability and creativity. These may include sudden changes in target audience, mandatory design elements, limited resources, spontaneous tasks, theme reversals, unexpected challenges, genre swaps, and color palette restrictions. Many more surprises are anticipated throughout the event to keep participants on their toes. -The competition will commence at a specified time and conclude 12 hours later. - Participants must submit their solutions within the allotted time..

UI/UX Hackathon: Description

  • The Offline Round is a 12 hr online live time event.
  • The Online Round will be on Unstop.
  • For the Offline Round, participants will be provided with problem statements based on the top submissions from Round 1. These problem statements may be modified to suit the theme of the Fest.
  • Participants will need to develop creative and innovative design solutions to address the problem statements. This includes creating detailed design mockups, prototypes, or other visual representations to present their solutions.
  • Participants are free to use any design tools or methodologies of their choice to develop their solutions.

Round 1 - UI/UX Case Study

  • Participants will undertake a user research project, which may involve creating user personas, conducting a heuristic evaluation of an existing design, or similar research activities.
  • Participants are to provide a detailed case study that includes research findings with key insights and data, a clear articulation of issues or shortcomings in the existing design or user experience, and practical recommendations for addressing these issues and improving the design.
  • The submissions should Include design mockups, prototypes, or other visual representations that illustrate your proposed improvements and demonstrate how they address user needs.
  • All case study submissions should be formatted as a single PDF document. Supporting visuals, such as design mockups and prototypes, should be included within the document or provided as separate attachments in common file types (e.g., PNG, JPEG, or PDF). Participants may also attach a video file if they deem it necessary to illustrate their design process or solution. Additionally, Figma or other design files can be included as supplementary attachments if relevant.
  • The top performers in the online round will qualify for the offline round at the IIITN Campus.
  • The top submissions will be used as problem statements for the Offline Round.
