Hack4Health-Transforming the Future of Health Apps: Stages and Timelines
Registration
Registrations are on! Participants and teams can start researching and ideating on their submissions.
Product Design and Development Sprint
In a two week sprint, design, develop and test your product to submit a functioning prototype with product documentation by the submission deadline.
Submission
Participants must submit thier working prototype with product documentation outlining the scope and functionality of the product.
Submission Guidelines:
- Prototype Submission: Participants are required to submit a functional prototype of the chat-based health app/web app, showcasing key features and interactions outlined in the project requirement.
- Documentation: Product document outlining the features, functionality, tech stack, UI/UX rationale and limitations of the submitted product. Document template is attached for reference.
Evaluation Process:
All submitted entries will undergo a thorough assessment process. Our panel of judges will review each submission based on predefined criteria. Only the entries that best meet these criteria will be selected to proceed to the next stage of the competition. Submissions will first go through a user testing round for basic functionality and requirements. Then, we’ll evaluate the ease of use and design intuitiveness, followed by an assessment of the tech stack used.
The decision of the judges is final and binding, so give it your best shot!
Evaluation
A team of evaluators will assess the submissions on adherence to requirements, functionality and out of the box thinking. Selected participants and teams will move to the final presentation round.
Presentation Round
Selected submissions will get a chance to present their products and presentations in an online meeting, from which the final prize winners will be chosen. If no presentation meets the requirements, a monetary prize may not be awarded. However, we will still consider notable presenters for internship interviews based on their work.

Prototype Requirements: App On The Chat
- Problem Statement:
- In an era of increasing health consciousness, the market for health and fitness apps has seen exponential growth. However, a common issue persists across these platforms: a cumbersome user interface overloaded with features and data. Our assessment, including an evaluation of our own app, reveals a significant gap between user preferences and app functionalities. As the market embraces smarter, simpler designs and leverages AI for service-driven tasks, there's an opportunity to revolutionise the functionality of health apps.
- Project Requirement:
- Simplification of Health Data Entry for End-Users on App-Supported Care Programs
- Objective:
- Reimagine the user interface of health apps by exploring a chat-based interaction model to streamline the user experience, with a focus on simplifying data entry for users enrolled in app-supported care programs such as Droobi and Smit.fit.
- Feature Requirement:
- Chat Interface Integration: Develop a user-friendly chatbot interface as the primary mode of interaction for all app functions, ensuring seamless communication between users and the app.
- Data Capturing: Enable easy entry and tracking of vital health data including weight, blood sugar levels, medicines and daily food logs through intuitive chat-based prompts.
- Health Insights, Trends and Nudges: Implement features to analyse user data and provide personalized insights, trends, and nudges with simple representations of health parameters to enhance user understanding and motivation.
- Wearable Integration: Enable seamless integration with wearable devices to capture real-time health data and synchronize it with the app for comprehensive analysis and tracking.
- CGM and Smart Device Integration: Integrate Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) systems and smart health devices such as weighing scales and glucometers to expand the app's functionality and enhance user convenience.
- Added Features: Incorporate access to additional features on a standard diabetes management app.
- Note: Participants are encouraged to think beyond the outlined requirements and propose additional features or enhancements that align with the project's objectives of simplifying health data entry and improving user experience in app-supported care programs. Participants can feel free to use AI tools/API to assist their development.
- For mobile apps, keep human interface guidelines and material guidelines in mind while development.
- Evaluation Criteria:
- User Experience (UX): Intuitiveness and ease of “App On The Chat”, with a focus on accessibility to additional app features.
- Functionality and Integration: Seamless integration with various health data sources and devices, ensuring accurate data capture.
- Innovation and Creativity: Extra points!
