MediScan AI Hackathon

Guidelines:

• Open to all students (UG, PG) from any recognized college/university
• Individual or team participation allowed (max team size: 4 members)
• Inter-college teams are allowed
• Inter-specialization teams (AI, ML, IT, Pharmacy, etc.) are allowed and encouraged

Format:

• Round 1 – Idea Submission (Screening): Teams submit their proposed approach, tech stack, and basic workflow
• Round 2 – Development (Prototype Round): Selected teams develop a working prototype within the given time
• Round 3 – Final Presentation & Demo: Teams present their solution to judges and showcase a live demo

Problem Statements:

• Primary problem statement:
  "Build an AI-powered application that scans medicine using a camera, extracts the text, fetches the medicine details, and predicts the medicine name"
• Optional sub-problems: Expiry date detection, QR/barcode scanning, and side-effects database integration

Duration:

• Round 1: 1 Day (Idea Submission)
• Round 2: 24–36 Hours (Hackathon Coding Round)
• Round 3: 2–3 Hours (Presentation & Judging)

Technology Stack (Recommended):

• Python (Flask/FastAPI/Streamlit)
• OpenCV (for camera & image preprocessing)
• Tesseract/EasyOCR (for text extraction)
• Machine Learning/NLP (for medicine prediction)
• Database: MySQL/MongoDB
• Frontend: HTML, CSS, JS

Rules:

• Each team can submit only one solution
• Teams must develop the solution during the hackathon (no pre-built projects allowed)
• Use of open-source libraries and frameworks is allowed
• Plagiarism or copying another team’s code will result in disqualification
• Teams must submit both:
  • Source Code
  • Working Demo (or video presentation if live demo not possible)
• Judges' decision will be final and binding
• Additional features will earn bonus points (e.g., expiry detection, barcode scanning)
