The IIT Hyderabad-incubated startup PURE EV has launched its new electric scooter model, ‘ETrance+’ at an ex-showroom price of Rs. 56,999. The scooter comes with a portable battery of 1.25 KWH that provides 65 kilometres of on-road range. The PURE EV startup has its own in-house battery manufacturing facility. Its research setup is however based out of the campus of IIT Hyderabad, where the startup’s committed Research and Development (R&D) team diligently works on the core areas of battery thermal management system for development of long-range and high-performance Lithium batteries.
The Chief Executive Officer of PuREnergy, Rohit Vadera remarked about the extraordinary aspects of the electric scooter model, “On the eve of Independence Day, we are proud to announce the launch of this entry-level scooter giving the Indian people freedom from monthly fuel expenses. We are constantly innovating keeping in mind the requirements of middle-class Indian consumers.”
He added, "In this COVID-19 pandemic scenario, thrust on personal mobility has increased significantly and people are looking for electric scooters at affordable prices. ‘ETrance+’ comes with a robust chassis design, body parts built for Indian road conditions and advanced features like regenerative braking, eABS and a SOC indicator shows the percentage of battery capacity remaining. We are confident that this model will meet the requirements of the majority of customers looking to buy EVs for their daily short commutes."
The IIT Hyderabad-incubated startup has already launched EPluto, ETrance and Etron+ models. The startup has plans to expand and broaden its manufacturing base to a larger facility whose annual capacity shall be of 2 lakh EVs and battery manufacturing capacity of 5 GWh in comparison with the existing capacities of 20,000 EVs and 0.5 GWh. The startup has thought to commission a new 2 lakh sq.ft. plant during 2021 so that it can meet the expected growth in the Indian Electric Vehicles and Lithium battery market.
The manufacturing unit of PURE EV has taken massive leaps in the field of technological advancement. Dr. Nishanth, Founder, PURE EV, and Associate Professor, Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, IIT Hyderabad, said, “The launch of ETrance+ is another important milestone for the company and demonstrates our ability on cost innovation even while meeting all the key expectations of the customers. Such innovations are becoming feasible even under the pandemic due to our in-house battery technology and the R&D in improving the efficiency of the powertrain."
He also remarked, "We intend to emerge as one of the pioneers in India in shifting the customers’ preference towards new generations Lithium battery-powered electric scooters. We are also in the process of getting the high-speed variant of this model certified by December 2020 which will be launched at an attractive price point of the ex-showroom price of Rs 69,999 with 90 kilometres on-road range with the top speed of 55 KMPH."
