The potency of intuitive and analytical approach | Winners of Masters Union Emerging Business Leaders 2020 from IIT Bombay
A single competition that focused on 3 aspects of the business world - management, finance and entrepreneurship saw a huge response from the young guns. Masters Union Emerging Business Leaders 2020 was an open call to all the business-minded undergrads and working professionals with up to 3 years of experience. We bring you an anecdote of the experience of the team Finatics, who was crowned as the first rankers of the competition.
Masters Union Emerging Business Leaders consisted of 3 rounds, all of them were well organised and had a fun and exciting factor. The first 2 elimination rounds were really well thought out and we had a great time attempting them. The final round was where our major focus was called upon. It was tense but at the same time, we got to learn a lot.
There were a total of 10 teams in the finale, and we believe all of the ideas were great and everyone gave us pretty tough competition.
A clear-cut comprehensive strategy
We tried to approach every problem set holistically, thinking about all facets. Our strategy was mainly to analyse various aspects of what we were trying to do and make our decisions accordingly. It took us about 3-4 days to work on our problem. And during this process, we mainly faced the challenge of figuring out how to ensure the feasibility of our solution and how to present it in a short span of time so that we could get our message across to the judges of Masters Union Emerging Business Leaders 2020.
Indelible learnings and memories
Due to the COVID 19 situation, we had to work together remotely from our homes. I think that was a big take away, learning how to collaborate efficiently was pretty interesting. Additionally, we really understood the value of a good pitch to get your idea across. The feedback given by the judges to our idea was also really valuable and we got to learn from their experience.
Speaking of memories close to our hearts, it has to be the winning moment of course. We weren't really expecting to get the first position but when we did, at first we couldn't believe it. But as it started to sink in, we really were glad and thankful at having been appreciated for our efforts.
The duo behind the team Finatics
We were a team of two, Pritish Bhatt and Arnav Deshmukh. We are really good friends from our undergraduate times at IIT Bombay where we were both Placement Managers leading the placement team at IIT Bombay. I am currently working at ISRO and Pritish is joining IIM Ahmedabad this year.
Our experience together in the Placement Team at IIT Bombay helped us a lot as we had done a lot of work together. We already had a good understanding of each other's strengths and so were able to work well together. Even during any conflicts, we resolved them by having debates where we argued against each other’s opinions without being biased to our own beliefs.
We complemented each other in terms of our approach to any problem. I have a more intuitive approach whereas Pritish has a more analytical approach. This really helped us in discerning various aspects of the problem in front of us. We could come up with a variety of ways to find a solution.
