A change of air! A transition from summer internship to B-School -By Agniva Das from IIM Nagpur

It is quite difficult to overcome the shock of corporate realism to exhaustive academia! I’m sure, you’ll agree with me on this one. The slog and the heat in the two grilling months of summer internship in Jaipur was difficult. But the moment I was getting accustomed to it, academia hit me with another whirlpool of assignments and pre-class readings. This transition left me somehow disoriented. I’m trying to recover somehow…

While I was returning to my brand-new hostel for my second-year ordeal, I realized that I faintly remember the names of the streets and the places in Nagpur. I couldn’t even remember the names of my friends here on campus. The inertia of corporate life pulled me further into time-bound routines. However, the books, case-mats and schedule were already distributed, and classes started off with its own pace. In addition to that, I also had to shift my precious belongings to a different hostel. Those were hectic few days before the start of the 4th term. I realize now that there wasn’t enough time to process the change that I encountered, straight from Summer Internship to IIM Nagpur campus. But, isn’t that what we are trained for, in MBA? I wonder…

But again, the corporate exposure and industry knowledge I gained from my Summer Internship has been phenomenal. Making sense of the concepts and insights of the courses I am pursuing now is a little bit easier. Interaction with my friends here about their experiences of the Summer Internship is a drastic eye opener. I got to know so much about the current market and industry scenario that I am slowly gaining a connected idea about business management. I believe Summer Internship opens new avenues for analytical thinking and logical introspection which prepares us for the long haul after MBA. It is only going to be tougher from here on, my friend!

If only the weather were a little merciful! The monsoon is taking its own sweet time to arrive. The general ambiance has become difficult without coolers in the hostel. Added to that, the number of buckets we need to carry from the washroom to our rooms is herculean.

All in all, the process of acclimatization is gradual, but I am trying to make the most out of the time I have here. I have realized that it is not important to be specific about our place of living, but it is all about the endeavors we make in those places. Summer Internship to college is indeed exhilarating. After all, a change of air always helps…!
