A strong resume and tech skills helped Aditya from SIMS Pune bag a job at Accenture

Listed in Fortune Global 500, Accenture is a well-established brand in the IT domain. It is a dream company for many individuals with the aim of launching their careers in a techno-practical job that allows you to work with trending technologies. The work culture and policies in Accenture is something that I have heard about. Since I am a tech-savvy, modern age millennial with a strong passion for the IT consulting domain, I considered myself lucky to see my dream company taking part in the placement session.

I decided to work smartly the moment I learned about Accenture’s participation in the final placement session. I did not leave any stone unturned and prepared myself for all the possible scenarios to get placed at Accenture. I concentrated equally on channelizing my thoughts and maintaining my fluency during interviews. I realized if I'm going to be straightforward and clear, the rest is going to be gravy!

The Multi-staged Recruitment Process

The recruitment process involved 3 steps:

  1. Resume shortlisting

  2. Techno-functional interview

  3. HR round

Resume Shortlisting

With a highly competitive market, it is of utmost importance to know what recruiters are looking for. Everyone has roughly 10 seconds to give an appreciable first impression through the resume. It is the bitter truth that if you haven’t engaged their interest by the first half of the resume, then they are unlikely to read it further. So, for the preliminary round, I prepared my resume as per the requirements of the job description and profile offered by the company. I even consulted my seniors and worked on it until it looked perfect.

Techno-functional Interview

I kept my focus on trending technology platforms in the market like AI, Blockchain, Cloud computing and so on. I also brushed up the details of my work experience to recollect and put my overall performance sheet with Tech Mahindra in order. The interview experience was wonderful. I was able to deliver the best answers to all the tech-questions. My hard work paid off as most of the questions were based on my prepared topics. Apart from the technical questions, I was also asked about my work experience and my family background.

Always remember that it is your positive attitude that will add to your profile. Even if you lack knowledge on some topic, don’t give up easily, explain the most likely direction you will take with the topic.

HR Round

I had a sigh of relief when I passed the techno-functional interview. But the good academic records and sound technical knowledge alone were not enough. Now the pressure of performing well was even more. But somewhere back in my mind I had full faith in my preparations. I took the help of my friends from HR specialization and prepared for the expected questions. During the final interview round, the HR Manager asked questions to test my strengths, weaknesses, capability to handle the role and to check my family background. I was also posed certain questions to check if I am the right fit for this job or not.

Bonus Tip: For interview practices, talk to the mirror! You should first be able to face and accept yourself as a candidate. This will give you a boost of confidence and endow you with fluency in your thought process.

All's well that ends well! The hiring committee finally verified my documents and offered me the job at Accenture with a designation of a Senior Business Technology Analyst.
